But saving a setup is not the same as starting a Battle Royale match with those items—you must obtain loadout items during the match. Current Warzone also has a version-specific limitation for older weapons and blueprints.
What “keeping” a loadout means
In the 2022 Warzone 2.0 launch overview, Activision said, “Custom Loadouts are back for Warzone 2.0,” and described creating and saving weapons in Gunsmith. That supports the idea that a custom setup is an in-game configuration you can use again; it is not a universal guarantee about persistence across every session, account change, or platform. Why you may not have your loadout at the start of a match
A saved custom configuration does not mean you automatically spawn with its items in Battle Royale. Activision’s overview of Warzone 2.0 Battle Royale describes acquiring loadout items during play through Loadout Drops or by clearing Strongholds. The saved setup and the in-match process for obtaining its contents are separate. Activision’s Battle Royale and DMZ overview describes those match mechanics.
How the answer differs in current Warzone
“Warzone 2” often means the 2022 Warzone 2.0 release, but current Warzone rules can differ. In its September 2026 Season 1 announcement, Activision says weapons from Modern Warfare II through Black Ops 7 remain available in the Legacy tab. However, Gunsmith functionality and prior custom loadouts are not supported for legacy weapons or blueprints. This limitation concerns those legacy items; it should not be treated as a blanket description of every current weapon or loadout. Read Activision’s Season 1 legacy-weapon and custom-loadout notice.

If your loadout appears to have reset
Activision’s Warzone known-issues page lists a custom-loadout reset issue as addressed. That status does not establish the cause of any individual player’s reset, nor does it mean every reset is expected or ongoing. Check the Warzone known-issues page for the current status before assuming your setup was intentionally removed.

Some games deliberately reset loadouts as part of progression. Activision says entering Prestige in Black Ops 7 resets loadouts, while saved weapon builds remain available after the weapon is unlocked again. That is a Black Ops 7 rule, not evidence that Warzone 2.0 resets loadouts for the same reason. See Activision’s Black Ops 7 progression and Prestige support page.
