Yes—Roblox checks age for some features, but that does not mean every player must upload a government ID. Roblox offers two separate methods: facial age estimation using a selfie-style image and video, and ID verification using a government-issued photo ID. The ID option is available only to users aged 13 or older; which check applies can depend on a feature, age, and region.
When does Roblox require an age check?
Roblox says age checks are required to use chat, Restricted Content, chat without filters with Trusted Friends, and collaboration through TeamCreate in Studio. Roblox says additional features may require age checks over time. This is an age-check requirement, not a blanket requirement to submit an ID: Roblox lists facial age estimation as a separate route.
To see what is available for your account, open Settings → Account Info and look for the age-check option. The options and requirements can vary by region and account circumstances. In some regions, a parent or guardian’s consent is required for facial age estimation.
What are the two ways to verify age?
| Method | What you provide | Eligibility and availability | What Roblox says about processing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Facial age estimation | A facial image and video. Roblox says it analyzes the image and video and examines facial features to estimate an age group. | Roblox provides age estimation as a verification method; regional rules may affect availability, and parental consent is required in some regions. | Roblox says it deletes the images and video after processing and does not receive or store biometric data from this process. |
| ID verification | A government-issued document, such as a passport, driver’s license, state ID, or residence permit. | Available only to users aged 13 or older. Roblox says the service supports users in over 180 countries; this is Roblox’s stated coverage, and its FAQ does not state a publication year for the figure. | The facial-estimation deletion and biometric-data statements do not describe the ID-verification process. Check Roblox’s current ID Verification FAQ for its applicable information. |
Roblox identifies Persona as its current third-party provider for both methods. The age groups Roblox lists for facial estimation are 5–8, 9–12, 13–15, 16–17, 18–20, and 21+. These are estimated age ranges, not a precise age determination.

What happens if the estimate is wrong or fails?
If you believe facial age estimation assigned the wrong age, Roblox says eligible users whose account age is over 13 can verify their birthday with an ID. If the estimate cannot be completed, Roblox says ID verification is needed. A successful ID verification can correct the birthday on the account to match the birthday on the document.
Roblox may ask for another age check if it detects an age discrepancy, and says it may occasionally ask users to re-check to maintain some social features. Use your own official document; do not submit someone else’s ID or rely on unofficial workarounds.

Does age verification automatically enable Voice Chat?
No. Completing an age check and turning on Voice Chat are separate. Roblox says Voice Chat requires an eligible user to be at least 13, be in a supported region, and enable it in a supported experience. Age verification alone does not guarantee access to Voice Chat or every other feature.
