What “Moonkin” means in this question
In Burning Crusade Classic, Moonkin Aura is the party aura associated with Moonkin Form. Totem of Wrath is a Shaman totem effect with spell-power and critical-strike-related effects. What changes with patch 3.0.2
Blizzard’s 2008 explanation of raid-buff changes says that buffs and debuffs were assigned to categories and that only the most powerful effect in a category applied. It lists Moonkin Aura in the spell critical strike chance buff category, while Totem of Wrath appears under increased spell power buffs and critical strike chance taken debuffs. Those listings do not, by themselves, establish that Totem of Wrath directly overwrote Moonkin Aura; they do mean the pre-3.0.2 stacking answer should not be carried forward without regard to the new categories. Why the answer is version-specific
Moonkin Aura did not keep one meaning across all WoW versions. The Classic reference describes the form-based party aura, while Blizzard’s later Tides of Vengeance notes describe a different effect: a Starsurge-triggered spell critical chance increase for allies that can stack. Totem of Wrath was removed in patch 4.0.1, though it remains in Burning Crusade Classic. The later aura design is therefore not the ability interaction discussed in the Burning Crusade-era report.
