Digital Paintball 2—officially Digital Paint: Paintball 2—is a free online first-person paintball game that began as a Quake 2 mod. It is still receiving official updates: the project’s news page lists Build 48, dated April 3, 2026. Its fast movement and team objectives set it apart from a straightforward paintball simulation.
Is Digital Paintball 2 still active?
Yes. The Digital Paint project’s official news page lists Paintball 2 Build 48, dated April 3, 2026. The update highlights projectile latency compensation, paint grenade changes, and movement adjustments intended to make ledge and ladder jumps more consistent. The page also reports changes to server behavior and other game systems. This establishes continued project updates, but does not by itself confirm how many players or servers are active.
The project also lists recurring Social Saturday sessions and a Discord community. Event dates can change, so check the official project site for the current schedule and community links; its 2026 schedule included an October 10 session.
What kind of game is it?
Paintball 2 combines team objectives with limited-range paint projectiles and quick, Quake-derived movement. The project says the first public version was released on July 31, 1998, originally as a Quake 2 mod. That history helps explain why movement and positioning are central: it is an online action game with paintball-themed weapons, not a real-world equipment simulator.

Some FAQ instructions reflect older Windows versions, so do not assume every legacy operating-system step applies to a current PC. Consult the current download page and documentation for instructions that match your system. The official material reviewed does not establish a complete, current platform compatibility matrix.
How do you strafe jump?
Strafe jumping—also called bunny hopping in the project FAQ—is a key movement technique. The documented principle is to combine forward movement with strafing while airborne to build acceleration. Timing and control matter; the FAQ describes the mechanic, but does not provide a single best setting or guarantee a particular speed.

- The T4E Training for Engagement paintball pistols allow you to train for less than 9 cents a round; Highly realistic size, weight, and controls provides highly realistic, cost-effective training.
Movement is part of how you approach team objectives: use it to reposition and navigate the map, rather than treating each exchange as a stationary aim duel. For weapon use, the FAQ notes that weapons differ in firing rate and covers switching between them, so learn those differences as part of your movement and engagement choices.
What mouse sensitivity should you use?
The official FAQ says mouse sensitivity and related mouse settings are adjustable, but it does not prescribe one ideal sensitivity. Start with a setting that lets you track targets without losing control during fast turns, then adjust it in small increments as you play. A mouse is a normal input option, not a specialist accessory requirement; the project does not specify a dedicated model or claim that one provides a measurable advantage.

Is Paintball 2 free?
Yes. The Digital Paint project FAQ describes the game as free. Asked whether the team makes money from it, the FAQ says: “Nope. Some people have donated some cash, but there’s not much profit to be made from a free game.” That statement is the project’s own description; it does not establish current revenue, player counts, or commercial partnerships.
