For a genre-spanning place to start, try Solitaire Battle for solitaire-inspired strategy, Wispy Dreams for co-op platforming, or BLASTCAT for exploration. These are editorial picks from titles Newgrounds featured in 2025—not an official platform-wide ranking. The archive descriptions help identify each game’s style, but don’t establish hands-on reviews or current compatibility.
How these 2025 Newgrounds picks were selected
Newgrounds’ Featured Games portal offers controls for browsing featured, latest, popular, ratings, range, sort, and category. It is a live listing, so its current order should not be read as a ranking of games from 2025.

Instead, the picks below draw on Newgrounds’ dated July, September, and December 2025 featured-game archives. Those listings confirm that each title appeared as a feature and offer brief descriptions; the three months are a sample, not a complete survey of the year.

There is also a year-end perspective from FutureCopLGF, a Newgrounds contributor. In a retrospective posted January 28, 2026, the author said they played and reviewed around 359 games during 2025, planned a showcase of around 100 by genre, and then presented a personal Top 20. That is one contributor’s selection, not an official Newgrounds award or a platform-wide consensus: FutureCopLGF’s “Best Games of 2025 Recap!”.

Which Newgrounds games are worth trying?
Choose by the kind of play you want rather than treating this shortlist as a numbered ranking. The descriptions below reflect the monthly archive listings; they are not independent evaluations.
| Game | What the archive describes | Best fit if you want | Release or format note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solitaire Battle | Solitaire deck-building, with battles played through solitaire. | A puzzle-and-strategy starting point. | No demo label is noted in the July archive description. |
| Wispy Dreams | A cute co-op platformer in the style of Bubble Bobble. | Cooperative platforming. | The archive describes it as co-op; confirm current play requirements on its game page. |
| PICOLLAGE2025 | A celebration of Newgrounds’ 30 years, made collaboratively by 56 Newgrounds artists. | A community-made anniversary entry. | The archive frames it as a collaborative celebration. |
| Newgrounds Virtuattack | The July listing gives the brief description “Virtual insanity.” | Someone curious about a featured title whose archive blurb offers little detail. | The listing confirms it was featured, but does not establish a gameplay evaluation. |
| Prune & Milo | A pixel-art, turn-based puzzle game. | Turn-based puzzle solving. | No demo label is noted in the September archive description. |
| From Rust To Ash | A roguelike auto-battler. | Roguelike systems and auto-battling. | No demo label is noted in the September archive description. |
| ABYSS RUSH (Demo) | A shooter set in a CGA-colored world. | A shooter concept you’re willing to try in demo form. | Explicitly labeled a demo; don’t assume it is a complete release. |
| BLASTCAT | An exploration platformer about navigating interconnected caves and finding abilities. | Exploration and ability-based progression. | No session length is established by the archive description. |
| God’s Disdain | A non-linear JRPG described as a journey to end a plague. | A role-playing adventure with a non-linear structure. | The archive does not establish playtime or current compatibility. |
| Tankmas ADVENTure 2025 | A Newgrounds Advent Calendar game with a new gift each day. | A seasonal format built around daily surprises. | Tied to the Advent Calendar; its archive description does not establish availability outside the event. |
How to choose from the shortlist
- For puzzles and tactics: Start with Solitaire Battle or Prune & Milo; the archives describe the former as solitaire deck-building and the latter as turn-based puzzle play.
- For platforming or exploration: Consider Wispy Dreams for its stated co-op style or BLASTCAT for cave exploration and ability-finding.
- For a more unusual format: From Rust To Ash is listed as a roguelike auto-battler, while PICOLLAGE2025 is an anniversary collaboration rather than a conventional genre pitch.
- For a story-led option: The December archive describes God’s Disdain as a non-linear JRPG.
- For a seasonal entry: Tankmas ADVENTure 2025 is organized around a daily gift, while ABYSS RUSH should be approached as a demo rather than a finished game.
Check the game page before you play
The featured archives show age labels for many games, but those labels are not an independent age-suitability review. Check each individual game page for its current rating or content label, as well as whether it is playable on your device and what controls it supports. The available archive descriptions do not establish current browser compatibility, controller support, or play duration.
