Yes. Put soul sand beneath a continuous column of source water and its bubbles lift players and other entities upward. If the column has a gap, the bubble effect stops there.
How soul sand lifts you
Soul sand under source water creates an upward bubble column. The bubbles carry players and other entities through the water. The Minecraft Wiki’s bubble-column guide describes this upward effect.
How to make a soul sand water elevator
- Build an enclosed vertical shaft for the elevator.
- Place soul sand at the bottom of the shaft.
- Fill the shaft with source water, working from the bottom upward. The Minecraft Wiki elevator tutorial recommends source water throughout the column.
- Check that there are no gaps: bubbles will not pass a break in the water column.
- Enter the water above the soul sand; the bubble column should carry you upward.
Why the bubble column may not go up
- There is a gap: A break in the water column interrupts the bubbles. Make the water continuous.
- The column is not made of source blocks: Refill it with source water blocks, starting at the bottom and working upward.
Mojang’s Block of the Week: Soul Sand provides background on the block. The retrieved article passage does not itself confirm the elevator mechanic.
