That describes the initial critic response—not player reception across platforms or the game’s current Steam user-review aggregate.
What critics said at launch
Metacritic’s review-page snapshot from the October 28, 2024 review opening counted 77 critic reviews: 55 positive, 18 mixed, and zero negative. The resulting 82 Metascore carried the site’s “Generally Favorable” label. Metacritic’s critic review page is the source for that launch-window picture.
Those numbers answer whether the game opened to mostly positive reviews among critics: yes. They are a dated snapshot, not a permanent score or a survey of everyone who played the game.
How the player-review picture differs
Steam’s English-language user-review aggregate is a separate measure. On the indexed product page observed October 8, 2026, Steam showed an overall “Mixed” label and 67% positive from approximately 29,249 English-language reviews. The count and percentage can change as users post reviews. Steam’s product page is the source for that storefront aggregate.

Critic reviews and Steam user reviews come from different audiences and use different rating systems, so their figures should not be treated as directly comparable scores. In particular, the current Steam English-language aggregate is Mixed—not “Mostly Positive”—and it does not change what the launch-window critic snapshot showed.

EA announced a global release date of October 31, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, the EA app, and the Epic Games Store. EA also identified the Steam version as Steam Deck Verified. EA’s August 15, 2024 launch announcement provides the release and platform details.

In EA’s description, players control Rook, a fully customizable protagonist, and adventure with seven companions: Bellara, Davrin, Emmrich, Harding, Lucanis, Neve, and Taash. EA framed the game as a character-driven RPG in which choices affect relationships and companion outcomes. The announcement’s launch-date quote from creative director John Epler was about the release, not about review reception.
