For players who like experimenting with combat roles and party composition, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has a clear appeal: it is a single-player action RPG built around an AI-supported party rather than human co-op. Capcom describes its Pawns as travelling companions that give solo players a taste of adventuring in a group. PlayStation likewise calls it a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG that lets players choose their own experience.

The trade-off is that this is not framed as a conventional multiplayer RPG or a guided, tightly directed adventure. The game’s official materials emphasize enemy weaknesses, terrain, and party setup, so its central promise is tactical choice. Whether its friction, quest clarity, pacing, and difficulty feel rewarding or frustrating depends on play experience that cannot be established from product descriptions alone.
How does the Pawn system work?
The Arisen—the player character—travels with AI companions called Pawns. PlayStation describes a party of up to three Pawns: a customizable main Pawn and two additional Pawns that can be hired through in-game options or from other players online. Online recruitment does not make the game co-op: Pawns are AI companions, not human-controlled party members.

This structure gives solo players several party slots to support a chosen combat role. It also makes party composition a meaningful part of the game’s design, alongside individual vocation choice. The official descriptions establish the system’s structure, but do not by themselves establish how reliably Pawns learn, follow commands, or handle particular encounters.

If you are unsure where to start, choose by preferred contribution: close-range defense, ranged attacks, or party support. What kind of adventure does it offer?
Capcom and PlayStation place the journey across the kingdoms of Vermund and Battahl. Official descriptions highlight enemies with weaknesses, terrain that can matter in a fight, and the value of preparing a party for the situation. These are design signals for an adventure in which combat is meant to involve more than selecting an attack; the sources do not establish how consistently those systems pay off in actual play.
Capcom reported more than 14 million cumulative sales for the Dragon’s Dogma series as of March 31, 2026. That is a franchise-wide figure, not sales of Dragon’s Dogma 2 alone, and it is not a measure of the sequel’s review quality.

Does Dragon’s Dogma 2 run well on PS5, Xbox, or PC?
Performance depends on platform, settings, and game version; launch-era reports should not be treated as a description of the October 2026 build. Windows Central reported on September 2, 2026 that Title Update 3.2 changed performance options and offered an Xbox Series X option of up to 60 fps and an Xbox Series S option of up to 45 fps with FSR upscaling. The report’s author said they briefly tested the Series X update and noted a resolution trade-off. This is one publication’s report, not a comparative benchmark across PS5, Xbox, and PC, nor proof that every version holds a stable frame-rate target. Check current settings and patch information for your platform before buying.
Should you buy the base game or wait for Dark Arisen?
As of October 8, 2026, Capcom’s paid Dark Arisen expansion is scheduled for October 9 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, alongside a Nintendo Switch 2 package that combines the base game and expansion. Capcom describes the expansion as adding a new story and broadening accessibility and content. Because the scheduled date is tomorrow, availability, exact edition contents, pricing, and reception are not yet established here.

If you want to play on a platform other than Switch 2, compare the base game with the expansion once its actual release details are available. If you are considering Switch 2, Capcom says its package includes both. PlayStation’s US page also lists the PS5 base game, expansion, and a character creator and storage demo; its camping kit and custom sounds are digital add-ons, not physical equipment.
