Eden is a free, open-source emulator for the original Nintendo Switch (Switch 1), with builds listed for Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, FreeBSD, and other platforms. Its official documentation does not yet provide a supported-games list, so platform availability and the project’s broad compatibility claims cannot tell you whether a particular game will run well on your device. For downloads, choose the build for your operating system from Eden’s official downloads page; Android users should also check the hardware and thermal guidance below.
What is Eden?
Eden describes itself as a free and open-source Nintendo Switch 1 emulator written in C++. Its README identifies the license as GPLv3-or-later, and the project’s repository describes Eden as derived from Yuzu and Sudachi. These are the project’s own descriptions, not independent assessments of its performance or development history. The project pages reviewed here do not establish a supported-games catalogue or independently verify compatibility claims.
The README says Eden can run most commercial games at full speed when hardware requirements are met, but that statement is not a guarantee for any particular game, device, resolution, or frame rate. The same README says, “A list of supported games will be available in future.” Check current, game-specific reports before choosing a device or troubleshooting a title.
How to download Eden
Use the operating-system build listed on the official downloads page. Eden’s current instructions identify these formats:
Recommended Free Tools
#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
- Linux: AppImage
- Windows: ZIP archive
- macOS: DMG; macOS may require you to allow an untrusted app in Security settings.
- Android: APK, with Standard, Genshin Spoof, and Legacy variants listed.
The downloads page recommends PGO builds when available, saying they may improve performance. Availability can vary, and the recommendation is not a performance guarantee.
Stable or nightly: which build should you choose?
| Channel | What Eden says | Practical choice |
|---|---|---|
| Stable | Updated less often and more thoroughly tested and vetted. | Choose this if you prefer a less experimental build. |
| Nightly | Usually updated daily, with experimental fixes, patches, and features; less thoroughly tested and may contain bugs or incomplete features. | Choose this if you want newer changes and accept a greater chance of problems. |
These are the project’s descriptions of its release channels; they do not establish that a particular build will fix a specific game or issue. Check the downloads page for the current build options.

Android requirements and compatibility factors
Eden’s architecture guide says an Android device should have at least 8 GB of RAM. It also cautions that benchmarks can mislead because of thermal throttling and memory limits, so an impressive short-run result does not necessarily indicate sustained performance.
GPU and driver choice
The guide identifies Adreno 6xx and 7xx GPUs with Turnip drivers as having the best compatibility in its recommendations. It notes that stock drivers can perform better on Adreno while offering worse compatibility. Other GPU families have varying performance and compatibility. These are Eden’s current guidance, not independent comparative tests; results depend on the device, driver, operating system, and game.

Dock your Nintendo Switch to enjoy HD gaming on your TV. Heading out? Just undock your console and keep playing in handheld mode
- This model includes battery life of approximately 4.5 - 9 hours.
- The battery life will depend on the games you play. For instance, the battery will last approximately 5.5 hours for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (games sold separately)
- Model number HAC 001( 01)
Heat, memory, and sustained play
The project recommends a cooler because phone system-on-chips can become very hot. A cooler is optional: the guide does not establish that one will improve compatibility, and it does not name a model. Consider the device’s SoC, available RAM, and ability to manage heat during longer sessions; price alone is not evidence that a phone is suitable.
Will a specific game work?
The official README reviewed here does not provide its own supported-game list. Its general statement about running most commercial games is not enough to predict how a particular game will behave. Compatibility and performance can vary with the game, operating system, GPU, driver, memory, and thermals. Look for a recent report for the exact game and a similar device and configuration; treat a report for a different setup as an indication, not a promise.

Does Eden work the same across platforms?
No. The architecture guide says most Eden testing is on Windows, Linux, and Android, and discusses differences in GPUs, drivers, and operating systems. Eden lists builds for additional platforms, but that does not establish equivalent testing, compatibility, or performance on each one. Choose based on your operating system and hardware, and consult the project’s platform guidance rather than assuming that a build’s availability means a game will run equally well.

The project pages establish Eden’s identity, license, download instructions, and hardware guidance; they do not determine whether using the emulator or obtaining firmware, keys, or game images is lawful in your country or circumstances. Do not treat the project’s documentation as a blanket legal ruling. For a specific situation, consult reliable legal guidance for your jurisdiction.
