No. Steam Support says it does not restore inventory items that have left an account—whether they were stolen after an account hijack, traded, sold on the Community Market, deleted, or gifted. Recovering a hijacked account is a separate process and does not guarantee the items will be returned. If a compromised transaction is still pending under a hold, you may be able to cancel it before it completes.
What Steam does—and does not—refund
Steam’s Item Restoration Policy says: “Steam Support does not restore items that have left accounts for any reason, including trades, market transactions, deletions, or gifting.” Steam explains that items may pass through multiple accounts before a request is made; restoring one could mean duplicating it or taking it from another user.
This policy applies even when an item left your inventory because someone hijacked your account. Steam also says it will not return items or gifts a user believes were traded unfairly. It distinguishes a scam, where deception leads someone to complete a trade, market transaction, or gift, from a hijacking involving unauthorized access to an account or computer. Neither distinction changes the no-restoration policy for an item that has already left the account. See Steam’s Trading and Market FAQ and Scams and Account Security.
The word “refund” can also mean money returned for a game purchase. Steam’s usual refund rule for eligible games is a request within 14 days of purchase and with less than two hours of playtime. That is a game-purchase policy, not compensation for stolen inventory items. Steam says requests outside those conditions may still be submitted for review. See Steam’s Common Refund Questions.

Choose the right action for your situation

If your Steam account was hijacked
Secure the computer and email first
Before resetting Steam credentials, Steam recommends scanning the computer for malware and changing the password for the email account linked to Steam. If someone still controls that email or the computer, they may be able to compromise the Steam account again. Steam’s Stolen or Hijacked Steam Account guidance and account security recommendations cover these precautions.
Recover account access
- Go to Steam’s account recovery page and try the self-recovery options.
- If self-recovery does not work, contact Steam Support through the recovery flow. Steam says Support will verify that the account belongs to you and recover it if you cannot complete self-recovery.
- Provide ownership evidence and any previous login names or email addresses used on the account, as requested by Support.
After regaining access, review authorized devices, sign out everywhere if anything looks unfamiliar, change your Steam password, and check the security of the linked email and other associated accounts. Do not share your password or enter it anywhere except an official Steam website. Treat unsolicited messages claiming to be Steam Support—especially through chat services—with suspicion.

When a pending transaction may still be stopped
If you discover a compromise while a trade or market transfer is still pending under a Steam hold, act promptly and cancel it. Steam’s Trade and Market Holds guidance says applicable holds can last up to 15 days. It also describes holds on items leaving an account when the Mobile Authenticator has not been active for the specified period. Cancelling a held trade triggers a seven-day trading cooldown.
These holds can create time to block a transfer before it completes. They do not reverse a completed transfer or override Steam’s policy against restoring items that have left an account.

If the problem is an unfamiliar Steam charge
An unrecognized payment is a billing issue, not a lost-item claim. Steam recommends checking whether household members or anyone with access to the payment method made the purchase, then reviewing your purchase history. If a household member made purchases without permission, contact Steam Support through its unknown-charge support flow.
