Dune: Awakening is out now on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Funcom’s official console launch was September 22, 2026—not a future 2026 release—and brought a full single-player mode alongside the game’s accumulated updates and the conclusion of Book One’s story.
When did Dune: Awakening come out on consoles?
Funcom released Dune: Awakening on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22, 2026. Funcom’s launch announcement confirmed the date; Xbox Wire’s launch coverage specifies Xbox Series X|S.

The official console release followed a head start that began September 17 for Deluxe and Ultimate Edition buyers. That earlier access date was not the general launch date. Bandai Namco Europe’s September 17 announcement reported the head start and cited 189,000 concurrent Steam players as a historical PC figure—not console sales or a current player count.
What did the console launch add?
A full single-player mode
The September 22 update added a full single-player mode and customizable gameplay settings. Funcom says the entire game and its features can be played solo. Players can also take a PvE approach: the publisher says PvP is optional and the game can be played entirely PvE. Funcom’s launch announcement describes these options.

The story and updates through Book One
The console release included the conclusion of Book One’s story and updates accumulated during the PC release period. The launch therefore offered console players the expanded game available at that point, rather than only the original PC launch content.
Is cross-play available?
Funcom confirmed cross-play between platforms as a post-launch feature, but its September 22 announcement did not give a release date. The announcement establishes that cross-play was planned, not that it was already live at launch. Check the game’s current official updates for its status.

Is there a physical PS5 edition?
Yes. Funcom confirmed a physical PlayStation 5 edition, with distribution assigned by region: Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe for EMEA, Australia, and New Zealand; Solutions 2 GO for the Americas; and Spike Chunsoft for Japan. The Japanese release was set for October 29, 2026. These distribution details do not confirm current stock at a particular retailer, so check local listings for availability.

What should Xbox players know about access?
Xbox Wire says the game is available with Xbox Game Pass and supports Xbox Play Anywhere, which carries progression across Xbox console, Windows Store, ROG Xbox Ally, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. The Xbox Store listing says console online multiplayer requires Game Pass Core or Ultimate, sold separately; check the current store listing for current plan terms. These are Xbox access details, not a claim that one console is the better choice for every player.

You can play the full game solo, and Funcom says PvP is optional, so the core experience does not require seeking out player-versus-player combat. Cross-play is a separate issue: Funcom announced it for a post-launch update but did not state a date in the launch announcement. For its live status, consult the latest official game updates.
