To defeat Everdark Sovereign Augur, beat Maris’s first form, choose the Storm Ruler weapon skill from the reward selection, then use Storm Ruler against the enormous Maris that appears in the sky. Use charged attacks when Maris drops within reach; use quick attacks to destroy its laser orbs and interrupt dangerous moves. Staying alive during its aerial attacks matters more than forcing damage when it is out of range.
How to unlock the Everdark Sovereign Augur fight
Everdark Sovereign Augur is the enhanced Maris, Fathom of Night encounter. Bandai Namco says you must first defeat the original Nightlord to face its Everdark Sovereign form, and the encounter requires online mode—even when playing solo. Everdark Sovereigns are stronger Nightlord versions with new moves. They appear in a rotation, so Augur may not be available in Expeditions at all times. Bandai Namco’s announcement explains the access requirement and rotating availability; its dated schedule should not be treated as today’s schedule.

How to damage the giant Maris
Take Storm Ruler after the first phase
The fight begins with Maris’s ordinary health bar. Once you deplete it, a much larger Maris appears in the sky and a reward selection offers a legendary version of your weapon with the Storm Ruler skill. Choose it: the encounter guide identifies Storm Ruler as the way to hurt the giant form.
Charge when Maris is close; attack quickly when timing matters
Hold the skill input to enter Storm Ruler’s charging stance. Wait for the wind effect to gather, then release a charged attack when Maris drops closer to the ground. A charged hit is difficult to land while Maris is high above you, so avoid wasting time trying to reach it at the wrong height. Light Storm Ruler attacks are faster and useful when you need to interrupt an attack or target the orbs.

The guide reports that holding the stance to charge regenerates FP. If you are playing in a group, coordinate Storm Ruler attacks so teammates can take advantage of openings rather than all committing at once.
Destroy the laser orbs for a stun
At roughly half health, according to PC Gamer’s encounter guide, Maris creates floating laser orbs above its head. Hit the orbs with light Storm Ruler attacks to destroy them. This stuns Maris and creates an opening to deal damage.

How to respond to Maris’s attacks
Use the giant phase’s attack patterns to decide whether to attack or prioritize evasion. The following responses are reported by PC Gamer’s July 31, 2025 guide; they are tactical guidance, not a tested ranking of builds.
- Spinning charge: The enhanced version is larger, harder to dodge and more damaging. Focus on evading rather than trying to trade hits.
- Ground laser and delayed blast: Move out of the laser’s path, then sprint clear of the blast or time a dodge to avoid the explosion.
- Aerial projectiles: Keep moving. The projectiles strike the ground and explode shortly afterward, and Maris is harder to hit with Storm Ruler while high in the air.
- Sleep attack: Interrupt with Storm Ruler. Use a light attack if charging would take too long.
- Expanding tidal wave: Move away from the direction in which the wave is spreading.
- Laser orbs: Use light Storm Ruler attacks to destroy them and stun Maris.
What to prioritize in your build and team
Since Storm Ruler is the guide’s main damage method, prioritize staying alive over building the whole party around lightning damage. Health, resistances and damage negation help you survive the enhanced attacks. Durable characters can be useful, and team-support skills or Ultimate Arts are options, not requirements. The guide does not establish a best character, build or damage threshold.

What rewards does Everdark Sovereign Augur give?
Bandai Namco says Everdark Sovereign victories award Sovereign Sigils, which can be exchanged for special Relics and other items; the first victory grants additional Sigils. PC Gamer identifies the Augur reward relic as Dark Night of the Fathom. It lists increased maximum HP, continuous HP recovery, and slow HP restoration for the player and nearby allies when HP is low. The exact Sigil count reported by the guide is the author’s personal result, not a guaranteed reward amount.
Storm Ruler and current-version notes
Bandai Namco Europe’s version 1.02.1 notes, dated August 12, 2025, say Storm Ruler’s charge time was reduced, blade speed increased, and uncharged attack power increased. The notes also include Maris-related bug fixes. These are historical changes, not a complete account of the skill’s current stats. Read the version 1.02.1 notes.
The latest official notice available for this article is dated September 18, 2026. It lists App Ver. 1.03.4 and Regulation Ver. 1.03.5 for PS4 and PS5, and describes a network-security change without mentioning Augur balance or mechanics.
