CCP said in January 2025 that two EVE Online expansions were planned for the year, then revealed them later as Legion and Catalyst. Legion launched on 27 May with an emphasis on corporation collaboration, sovereignty, and ships; Catalyst arrived on 18 November with mining and industry changes, exploration content, and a new map. EVE Fanfest ran 1–3 May at Harpa in Reykjavik, where CCP announced Legion and streamed the main program for remote viewers.
What CCP’s January 2025 roadmap actually said
CCP’s 28 January Directors’ Chat announced that the company would discuss “the two expansions coming in 2025.” The written announcement did not name either expansion or provide a detailed feature-by-feature release calendar. The names and details emerged in later announcements and release notes, so the January post is best understood as a high-level outlook rather than a complete roadmap. Legion: corporation collaboration, sovereignty, and ships
CCP announced Legion during Fanfest on 2 May and set its launch for 27 May 2025. The announcement highlighted Freelance Jobs, sovereignty upgrades, and new warships. CCP’s Legion announcement
Freelance Jobs and corporation tools
Freelance Jobs let players create opportunities for capsuleers outside their corporation’s membership, offering a way to bring in help for work without requiring those players to join the corporation. CCP’s later retrospective also associates Legion with the introduction of ACLs; that detail comes from the retrospective, not the January roadmap. CCP’s 2025 year-in-review

How the two 2025 expansions differed
| Expansion | Release | Emphasis | Documented additions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Legion | 27 May 2025, as announced by CCP | Corporation collaboration, sovereignty, and ships | Freelance Jobs, sovereignty upgrades, warships, balance and quality-of-life updates |
| Catalyst | 18 November 2025 at 11:00 UTC, per CCP’s expansion notes | Mining and industry, with exploration and navigation additions | Resource rush, Pioneer mining destroyer, Odysseus exploration ship, epic arc, carrier updates, PLEX logs, and 2D map |
The distinction is one of emphasis, not exclusivity: Legion’s announced features also included ships and balance work, while Catalyst included several kinds of content beyond mining.
