The “sleeping dragon” in Elden Ring is Elder Dragon Greyoll. She lies in Greyoll’s Dragonbarrow in northern Caelid, just south of Fort Faroth. You can defeat her by killing the lesser dragons linked to her health, or by building up blood loss directly on Greyoll; when her health reaches zero, the linked dragons die too.
Where is the sleeping dragon in Elden Ring?
Greyoll is in Greyoll’s Dragonbarrow, immediately south of Fort Faroth. Use the fort as a landmark when navigating. If you are already in Dragonbarrow, the Dragonbarrow West Site of Grace is a useful route reference. A 2022 GameFAQs guide describes heading south and east from the grace, passing through an opening in a wall of fire to reach Greyoll.

Reaching Dragonbarrow from Limgrave
If you have not reached northern Caelid, a PowerPyx guide documents two routes: take the portal in the pond near the Third Church of Marika in Limgrave to reach Bestial Sanctum, or make a mounted jump over cliffs near Caelem Ruins. The portal offers direct access, but neither route makes the surrounding area safe: Dragonbarrow is described as high-level, mid-game territory, so arriving early does not mean you are ready to fight everything there.
How to kill Greyoll
Greyoll is stationary, and her health is connected to that of the lesser dragons nearby. You can use that link to choose between two approaches.

Option 1: Kill the lesser dragons
Defeating the lesser dragons damages Greyoll. Kill the group and the shared-health mechanic can defeat her. This approach engages with the surrounding enemies rather than relying on a specific weapon or status effect. Greyoll’s location, health link, and the direct-bleed interaction are described in Eldenpedia’s Greyoll reference; it is community-edited, not an official publisher source.
Option 2: Build up blood loss on Greyoll
You can also attack Greyoll directly with a weapon that builds blood loss. Once her health reaches zero, the linked lesser dragons die as well. The 2022 GameFAQs walkthrough recommends a blood-infused Morning Star and says its setup may take several minutes. Treat that as one guide’s approach and timing, not a guarantee for every character or weapon. The Morning Star is an in-game option, not a requirement; use a suitable bleed weapon you already have if you prefer this route.

What rewards does Greyoll give?
Published references report different rune totals, so there is no single number here that should be treated as a guaranteed payout. All three accounts list five Dragon Hearts, but their rune figures differ:

The GameFAQs guide also suggests using a Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot near the end of the fight to increase the runes received. Its totals depend on the guide’s setup and assumptions. These are guide and reference claims, not official publisher statistics, so do not combine them into one expected payout.

Choosing a route and fight strategy
- For access: The Third Church of Marika portal is a direct route to Bestial Sanctum; the Caelem Ruins cliff route is another documented way into Dragonbarrow. Reaching the region early is convenient, but the area’s high-level designation is a reason to be cautious.
- For the fight: Killing lesser dragons uses Greyoll’s linked-health mechanic. Attacking her directly with a bleed weapon is another documented approach and may be convenient if you already have a suitable weapon.
- For rewards: Treat published rune totals as source-specific estimates, not a fixed official reward.
