Dragon Age: The Veilguard does not use Dragon Age Keep or directly import saves from earlier games. Instead, its setup lets you set three selected decisions from Dragon Age: Inquisition: the Inquisitor’s romance, the Inquisition’s fate, and the Inquisitor’s vow about Solas.
What carries over into The Veilguard?
Developer interviews reported in 2024 describe three Inquisition decisions that players can set during The Veilguard’s setup:
- Whom the Inquisitor romanced.
- Whether the Inquisition was disbanded or continued under the Chantry.
- Whether the Inquisitor vowed to stop Solas or save him.
These are selected choices, not a transfer of the Inquisitor’s complete history. The reported carryover does not include decisions from Dragon Age: Origins or Dragon Age II. IGN’s 2024 developer coverage describes the three-choice scope; an EA forum response says the game does not use Keep or directly import earlier saves and choices.
How this differs from Dragon Age Keep
Keep was a cloud-based tool for customizing Dragon Age history and importing a saved world state into Inquisition. It also helped players define that history when they no longer had older save files. In a 2013 explanation, BioWare executive producer Mark Darrah wrote that an import from Origins to Dragon Age II brought across “something in the order of 600 different data points.” That figure describes an earlier import path, not The Veilguard.

In practical terms, do not expect your old save, Keep profile, or accumulated world state to appear automatically. The documented approach is to establish a small set of relevant Inquisition outcomes in the new game’s setup.
