To succeed with a Saiyan team in Dragon Ball Legends, learn the touch-control battle loop first, save your Vanishing Step for attacks you can evade, and build around Z Abilities that actually benefit your chosen fighters. In standard battles, you bring six characters and select three to fight; the best lineup depends on your available roster and the mode you are playing, not on a permanent “best Saiyan team.”
Learn the basic battle controls
Standard battles use one-finger touch controls. Your first goal is to connect movement, Ki management, Arts Cards, and evasion without spending resources blindly.
- Move: Swipe across the screen to approach or reposition.
- Attack: Tap an Arts Card to use it. Arts Cards require Ki, so keep an eye on your available Ki before tapping.
- Evade: When an opponent attacks and your Vanishing Gauge is full, swipe to perform a Vanishing Step. Treat the gauge as a limited defensive resource rather than swiping automatically.
- Charge Ki: Tap and hold the screen to charge Ki when you have an opening.
- Switch fighters: Changing allies can restore the Vanishing Gauge. A switch can therefore help maintain your ability to evade, as well as put a different fighter into the battle.
Arts Cards can also carry Dragon Balls. Collecting them enables Rising Rush, a powerful team attack; it is a goal to work toward, not an attack you should assume is available at the start of every fight. The official battle guide covers these core controls and mechanics.
Build a Saiyan party around Z Abilities
Start with the characters you own, then check their Tags, Episodes, and Z Abilities in the party formation screen and character details. A Saiyan tag alone does not guarantee that a character strengthens every other Saiyan: read the ability text and confirm which Tags or Episodes it targets.

- Re-enact your favorite Dragonball Z battles by using high-intensity fighting cards to protect the universe from complete domination! Start as Gohan and begin your training against Piccolo, then battle against Nappa, Vegeta and Frieza! Then stand your ground against the awesome power of Cell and Buu! Are you fast enough, brave enough and strong enough to save the universe?
Bandai Namco’s party formation FAQ recommends grouping characters with matching Tags or Episodes to get the most from Z Abilities aimed at those groups. Use the party screen’s Tag and Episode filters to find compatible fighters.
Choose the three fighters for the battle
In standard rules, your party can contain six characters, but you select three for a battle. Choose a trio whose abilities and roles work together, and check that the relevant Z Abilities benefit the fighters you intend to use. The other party members can provide support through applicable abilities; the official guide also describes a supporter choice with conditional effects that can heal or disrupt combos.

Do not fill a team with Saiyans by default
Build for the actual benefits shown on the characters’ abilities and for the matchup or mode you are entering. A character that does not strengthen your intended group may be a weaker party choice than someone with a useful, clearly applicable ability. Character viability and equipment value change as the roster develops, so this guide does not prescribe a timeless top team or specific equipment.

Standard battles and Rating Matches
Standard battles are real-time fights between three selected fighters on each side. You win by knocking out the opposing team, or, if time expires, by dealing more damage. In real-time modes such as Rating Matches, practice the basic movement, Arts Card, Ki, and Vanishing Gauge loop rather than spending the whole match attacking without watching your defense.

Tournament of Power
Tournament of Power is a separate, turn-based mode, not a slower version of real-time PvP. Prepare an eight-character roster: six battle members and two backups. Formation and placement matter, along with Tag or Episode boosts and equipment, so assess your roster for that mode instead of carrying over a standard-battle trio unchanged. The official Tournament of Power guide explains its setup and turn-based structure.
