EA said EA SPORTS College Football 25 drew 2.2 million unique players during Early Access before its worldwide launch on July 19, 2024. The publisher also reported 600,000 additional players through the EA Play trial. Those are player counts—not confirmed preorder, buyer or sales totals.
What EA’s 2.2 million figure counts
In its July 19, 2024 launch-day announcement, Electronic Arts reported 2.2 million unique Early Access players. EA separately said 600,000 additional players used the EA Play trial. The trial figure is a distinct count; EA did not present it as part of the 2.2 million Early Access total. EA’s launch announcement does not identify either number as purchases or preorders.

How players got in before launch
EA’s launch materials described different routes to play ahead of the July 19 general release. These historical launch-period offers should not be read as current availability or pricing.

Why the launch drew attention
College Football 25 was EA’s return to its college football game series after a long gap. EA announced the worldwide release for July 19, 2024, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The company said the game included all 134 FBS universities, more than 150 stadiums and thousands of current college athletes through an NIL deal; those are EA’s descriptions of the game’s scope, not a claim that it covered every U.S. college team or athlete.
EA promoted CampusIQ gameplay features including Wear & Tear, Pre-Snap Recognition and homefield advantages. The announced modes included Dynasty, Road to Glory, Road to the College Football Playoff and College Football Ultimate Team. These details appear in EA’s game reveal and modes announcement.

What the headline does—and does not—show
The announcement establishes a substantial early audience by EA’s own measure: 2.2 million unique Early Access players, alongside 600,000 additional EA Play trial players. It does not establish total sales, preorder numbers, revenue or an independently audited count. EA executive Daryl Holt said the company was excited to “welcome millions more into the game with today’s launch”; that is EA’s characterization of the launch, not a later measured player total.
