Ubisoft was reported to be developing a battle royale called Project Scout, with character concepts heavily inspired by Apex Legends. That report came from Insider Gaming on April 16, 2025, citing unnamed sources; Ubisoft has not publicly confirmed the project in the sources available as of October 8, 2026. Its current status is unknown.
What is Project Scout?
Scout is the project name used in Tom Henderson’s April 16, 2025 report for Insider Gaming. The outlet said the game had reportedly been in development for at least a couple of years at that time. These are details attributed to sources, not an official Ubisoft announcement or a public game reveal. Read the original Insider Gaming report.
How was it reportedly similar to Apex Legends?
Insider Gaming described Scout as heavily inspired by Apex Legends, including character concepts “very similar” to characters such as Pathfinder, Wraith and Lifeline. The report said Ubisoft’s characters would put a spin on those inspirations. It did not reveal verified character designs, gameplay footage or detailed mechanics, so these similarities should be understood as reported claims rather than confirmed features.
The outlet also quoted an unnamed source saying: “I think the goal is to capitalize on the player count of Apex dropping and them [Ubisoft higher-ups] thinking there’s room in the market for another hero Battle Royale.” The quotation is anonymous, and the report provided no verifiable player-count figure or measurement. It should not be read as an established statistic or as a statement from a named Ubisoft executive.

Is Ubisoft still making Project Scout?
Its status is unconfirmed. The latest public reporting about Scout identified here is from April 2025; the available sources do not establish whether Ubisoft continued development, cancelled the project, renamed it or changed its direction. There is no confirmed release date, platform list or official reveal.
Ubisoft announced a broad organizational and portfolio reset in January 2026, but the announcement does not mention Scout and does not settle its fate. Ubisoft’s January 2026 announcement is company-wide context, not confirmation that Scout was cancelled or remains active.

Is Scout the same project as Ubisoft’s reported Pathfinder?
That has not been established. GameSpot’s April 16, 2025 coverage of the Scout report noted another reported Ubisoft battle royale called Pathfinder, while saying the relationship between the two projects was unknown. The names should not be treated as interchangeable or as proof of a shared project. GameSpot’s coverage summarizes the report and notes this distinction.
What do we know about Apex Legends’ status?
EA published an Apex Legends roadmap on February 12, 2026, outlining planned updates through that year and cautioning that timelines may shift. The roadmap shows that EA had publicly announced ongoing plans for Apex Legends; it does not verify the anonymous source’s claim about declining player numbers or tell us what Ubisoft intended for Scout. EA’s team wrote, “Our goal for 2026 is simple: continue to evolve Apex Legends, the best, most competitive Battle Royale out there.” Read EA’s roadmap.

- Reported: Insider Gaming said Ubisoft was developing a project called Scout, described as an Apex-inspired battle royale, in April 2025.
- Reported, not revealed: Character concepts were said to resemble Pathfinder, Wraith and Lifeline, with variations.
- Unconfirmed: Whether Scout is still in development, has been cancelled, or has changed name or direction.
- Not established: A release date, platforms, official announcement, detailed gameplay or a verified Apex player-count decline.
- Separate uncertainty: Scout’s relationship to the separately reported Ubisoft project Pathfinder is unknown.
Ubisoft’s December 2024 decision to discontinue XDefiant is not evidence about Scout’s status. Ubisoft’s XDefiant announcement concerns that game alone.
