If your build supports ranged magic, a guide-recommended option is to open from range, then use Torrent and a Spirit Ash summon to stay mobile and split the drake’s attention. There are more drakes farther up the mountain, and the route continues toward Igon and Bayle.
Where to find the first Jagged Peak Drake
Start near Castle Front and make your way through Dragon’s Pit. After the Ancient Dragon-Man encounter, exit at Dragon’s Pit Terminus and follow the route toward the Foot of Jagged Peak. The first drake is in a clearing near the mountain’s foot; the trail continues beneath a molten rock archway. The Jagged Peak location guide describes this route.
This is not the only drake encounter in the area. PowerPyx’s guide distinguishes the first drake near Dragon’s Pit Terminus from two farther up the mountain, which start fighting each other.
How to beat the first drake
The detailed tactic available for this encounter is a build-specific ranged approach, not a universal best strategy. It relies on strong ranged sorceries, Torrent for movement and Spirit Ashes to draw the drake’s attention. If you prefer close combat, the cited guide does not provide a tested melee walkthrough or rank weapons, so there is no evidence-based weapon recommendation to give here.

Optional ranged-magic approach
- Open with a ranged burst if your build can support it. PowerPyx suggests using the Cerulean Hidden Tear in the Wondrous Flask and casting Comet Azur while approaching. This is an optional tactic for a suitable mage build; it is not a requirement.
- Switch to mobility if the drake survives. Summon Torrent and Spirit Ashes. The summon can draw the drake’s attention while you keep moving around it on horseback.
- Keep attacking from range. PowerPyx names Great Glintstone Shard and Rock Sling as follow-up sorceries. Reposition on Torrent rather than staying in one place to cast.
If you are not using ranged magic
The available guide does not compare melee weapons or spell-free tactics, so it cannot establish a single best close-range setup. The broad encounter distinction is that the suggested method uses mobility and a summon to divide the drake’s attention; adapt those elements to your build rather than treating the named spells as mandatory.
What to do when you reach the two later drakes
Farther up Jagged Peak, two drakes begin fighting each other. PowerPyx recommends letting their fight play out before engaging: one may lose health while the other occupies it. Its guide then suggests applying the same general ranged approach to the survivor. This later pair is a separate encounter from the first drake near Dragon’s Pit Terminus, including for reward purposes.

Continue toward Igon and Bayle
After defeating the first drake, continue up the mountain. The location guide says Igon appears on the road and asks you to summon him against Bayle. PowerPyx places its Igon summon progression after the two drakes farther along the route, so the exact point at which you encounter him depends on how far you have progressed through Jagged Peak. The route’s destination is the Bayle encounter.
