Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream is a polished, single-player stealth adventure whose encounters are closer to authored puzzles than open-ended stealth sandboxes. PC Gamer praised its visual presentation and voice performances, while noting that its prescribed solutions can limit improvisation and that the story loses some force later on. Steam user reviews are strongly positive in the snapshot captured October 8, 2026, but those figures change over time.

What kind of game is Eriksholm?

Developed by River End Games and published by Nordcurrent Labs, Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream launched on July 15, 2025. It is a single-player, isometric narrative stealth adventure set in a fictional Nordic city inspired by early-1900s Scandinavia. The story begins with Hanna searching for her missing brother, Herman, and grows from that disappearance into a broader chain of events. Steam’s store page describes the game and its release details.

Its central mechanic is switching among three characters, each with distinct abilities. Players study guard behavior and environmental cues, then use cover, stealth and diversions to get through encounters and puzzles. That character rotation gives the game variety, but the key question raised by reviews is how much freedom the levels allow in using those abilities.

What do reviews say about the stealth?

Encounters are designed around intended solutions

In PC Gamer’s review, Joshua Wolens characterizes the game as more of a stealth puzzle than a stealth sandbox. Encounters tend to point toward specific solutions, so players looking for room to improvise or exploit a broad set of systemic options may find the design restrictive. For players who enjoy reading a carefully staged situation and working out what it asks them to do, that constraint can make solving an encounter satisfying.

Wolens sums up the trade-off: “So it’s more stealth puzzle than stealth sandbox, but within those confines it’s usually satisfying to figure out what each encounter wants from you, even if it doesn’t feel especially creative.” This is one critic’s assessment, not a guarantee that every player will respond the same way.

Abilities and chapters add variety within that structure

The three playable characters bring different abilities to the stealth challenges. PC Gamer also notes that the game has eight chapters, with each generally introducing a gameplay wrinkle. That provides progression and variation, though it does not change the review’s broader point that encounters often expect a particular approach.

How strong are the story and presentation?

PC Gamer singled out the lighting, animation, visual design and voice work as strengths. The review found the opening community-focused chapters more compelling than the story as it broadens later. Its overall impression was of a game with particularly strong presentation and performances, while the gameplay was good rather than exceptional.

Steam lists English full audio and interface support. Its listed subtitle and interface languages are French, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese and Russian. These are the languages specified on the store listing, not a claim about additional localizations.

What do Steam players think?

Steam’s captured user-review figures were 95% positive from 1,208 English-language reviews overall and 91% positive from 56 recent reviews, as of October 8, 2026. These are platform-specific user ratings, not critic scores or a permanent measure; both percentages and review counts can change.

The Steam store page also displayed a Metacritic score of 78 when captured on that date. The listing does not establish the critic count or scoring methodology, so treat it as a storefront-displayed aggregator figure rather than a complete account of critical consensus. Steam also displayed selected critic quotes attributed to TheSixthAxis, Loot Level Chill and GamingBible; those selected quotes are not a comprehensive review tally.

  • Choose from three deadly Villains to shape dynamic gameplay and storyline
  • Beautiful illustrations and graphic design with vast world building and deep narrative

Who is likely to enjoy it?

  • Consider it if you like isometric stealth, distinct character abilities, carefully authored encounters and a strong audiovisual presentation.
  • Be cautious if your priority is a stealth sandbox that rewards many viable plans, experimentation and improvised solutions; the cited review describes a more prescriptive design.
  • For story-first players, the setup and early chapters may appeal, but PC Gamer was less taken with the narrative as it expanded.

Platforms, requirements and editions

The Steam listing provides Windows 10/11 PC requirements and lists 15 GB of storage. PC Gamer recorded Steam Deck Verified status at the time of its review; that status is tied to the review-era assessment and should not be read as a guarantee about every future hardware or software configuration.

River End Games and Nordcurrent Labs announced a boxed edition on September 10, 2025, with an October 31, 2025 launch date and announced prices of £39.99, $44.99 and €44.99. The announcement said the box includes a period-style city map and collectible postcards. It does not establish which platforms the boxed version supports, which retailers carried it, or its current stock or price. Check a retailer’s current listing for those details. The Steam store lists a digital soundtrack add-on; the sources cited here do not establish a physical soundtrack release.
