Metacritic’s PS4 critic page records a 70 Metascore from four reviews, classified as “Mixed or Average.” The displayed reviews were all scored 70 and published between May 30 and June 27, 2018. The reviews recognized that the island adventure and open-world play remained enjoyable, while pointing to the limits of the re-release. Push Square noted clunky controls and dated aspects; Trusted Reviews argued that the series’ formula had moved on and that some elements could be a hurdle for newcomers. Why the original game’s score is different
The original Far Cry 3 and Classic Edition have separate review records. Metacritic lists the original game at 88 from 43 critic reviews, with an 8.4 user score from 7,160 ratings on its general game page. GameSpot dates the original release to December 4, 2012 and gives it a review score of 9. Neither the original game’s Metascore nor GameSpot’s score is a rating for the 2018 Classic Edition re-release.

Does it run at 60FPS on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S?
PlayStation’s current US listing says a free 60FPS update is available on PS5 and PS5 Pro. For Xbox, a TechRadar report published January 20, 2026 said Ubisoft’s update was scheduled for January 21 on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, as well as PS5. The PlayStation page is the current platform listing; the Xbox timing comes from that dated report. The cited information does not provide a comprehensive platform-by-platform performance benchmark.

Classic Edition makes the strongest case for players who want the campaign, island setting, and character-driven story, and who are comfortable with a re-release that leaves dated or clunky elements in place. Newcomers should expect an older open-world design rather than the more evolved formula critics associated with later entries. The reviews support that distinction, but do not establish a technical head-to-head comparison with the original release.
