The key to a successful craft is lighting the forge first and using an ordinary, unmodified dagger, greatsword, or sickle.
How to start the Masterwork Weapon quest
In the Blighted Village, find Highcliff’s Journal in one of the houses, or locate Highcliff’s Blueprints in that house’s basement. The Blueprints are in a wooden chest near X:-438 Y:-378; watch for nearby traps. Reading the plans updates the quest journal, and a Nature check can reveal more about where to find the bark. BG3 Wiki’s quest guide documents both starting clues.
Where to find Sussur Tree Bark
Travel to Dread Hollow in the Underdark and find the large Sussur Tree. Take the Sussur Tree Bark at X:-14 Y:-138. The bark is a quest ingredient; it is not itself the finished weapon. The BG3 Wiki item page lists the location.
How to craft the Masterwork weapon
- Return to the blacksmith’s forge in the Blighted Village, around X:-446 Y:-378.
- Use the bellows to light the furnace.
- Place Sussur Tree Bark into the lit furnace. The flame changes from red to blue.
- Combine the active furnace with one ordinary, unmodified dagger, greatsword, or sickle.
The Blueprints specify an ordinary blade. A modified weapon is not a valid base for this craft, and the listed choices are limited to those three weapon types. If crafting does not work, check that the furnace is lit and blue, and that the weapon is an unmodified dagger, greatsword, or sickle. Which Sussur weapon should you choose?
One quest completion produces one of three alternatives—not all three from the same bark: a Sussur Dagger, Sussur Greatsword, or Sussur Sickle. Choose according to the intended wielder’s weapon proficiency and build, and whether that character benefits more from a dagger, greatsword, or sickle. The quest source describes all three as +1 weapons that can silence on hit, but the available comparison does not establish complete statistics for each weapon.
Sussur Dagger
The Sussur Dagger is Rare and +1. On a melee hit, it attempts to impose a DC 12 Constitution saving throw; if the target fails, it is silenced for two turns. Silence prevents speech and spells with verbal components and grants immunity to Thunder damage. Throwing the dagger does not trigger this silence effect. These specific mechanics are documented for the dagger and should not be assumed to apply identically to the greatsword or sickle. See the BG3 Wiki’s Sussur Dagger page.

What to know about the guide’s mechanics
The locations, quest steps, and weapon details here follow the community-maintained BG3 Wiki, rather than an official Larian guide. The quest page reported an edit date of 12 September 2026, and the pages were accessed on 8 October 2026. Game patches can change mechanics; the dagger page also notes a historical correction to its saving-throw description.
