When did the collection release?
Nintendo’s UK product page lists 2 October 2025 as the release date for both formats. The date is in the past: the “sooner than you’d think” wording came from T3’s announcement article, published on 13 September 2025, after a Nintendo Direct on 12 September. T3 reported that Shigeru Miyamoto revealed the collection and that it would arrive on 2 October. Nintendo’s UK product page is the source for the release and product details; T3’s original announcement story provides the Direct context.
How does it work on Switch 2?
You do not need Switch 2 to identify or play the base release: Nintendo lists it for Nintendo Switch. On Switch 2, a free update enhances the games. Nintendo specifies 4K output in TV mode and 1080p in handheld and tabletop modes. These are the output resolutions Nintendo lists for the update, not a claim of independently tested performance.

- Assist Mode: included as an additional option for players.

- Soundtrack: Nintendo lists 154 tracks in total.
- Co-Star Mode: a second player can use a Joy-Con pointer to collect Star Bits, shake bushes, or fire Star Bits at enemies.
Are amiibo required?
No. Nintendo lists amiibo interactions as optional: Mario amiibo can provide a Life Mushroom, Rosalina amiibo a 1-Up Mushroom, other Mario series amiibo coins, and other amiibo Star Bits. You can play without amiibo.
