Howard’s earlier comments establish how the game relates to the television series, but they do not reveal its plot or cast. Taken together, the confirmed details are about development, technology and broad continuity—not a playable reveal.

This is a statement about the world’s continuity: the show’s events will matter to the setting Fallout 5 inhabits. It does not confirm that Lucy, the Ghoul or another television character will appear in the game, nor does it explain how the show’s story will intersect with the game’s plot.
What engine is Fallout 5 using?
Bethesda says Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls VI are being developed on Creation Engine 3, a shared technology platform the studio has been building since Starfield launched. Bethesda says the engine supports work across multiple projects with new tools, rendering and systems. The update does not provide Fallout 5-specific graphics, performance or gameplay details, so the engine announcement alone cannot establish what the finished game will look or play like. Why is Fallout 5 still in preproduction?
Bethesda says The Elder Scrolls VI is its primary development focus, with the majority of the team working on that game. That context helps explain why Fallout 5 is described as a long-range project, but it does not support a reliable estimate of when Fallout 5 will launch.
Howard also told Game Informer in December 2025, “We’ve never stopped developing Fallout. We’ve had a full team on Fallout for a long time.” That comment concerns Bethesda’s ongoing work on the franchise; it is not a claim that a full team has been working on Fallout 5 itself. When is Fallout 5 coming out?
There is no announced Fallout 5 release date. Bethesda’s July 2026 update says the game is in preproduction but does not give a release window. Any specific year or schedule circulating without a new official announcement should be treated as speculation, not a confirmed launch plan.
