A January 2026 retailer listing suggested the Steam Machine could cost more than $1,000, but it was preliminary pricing data—not a Valve announcement. Later U.S. prices reported after Valve’s announcement were $1,049 for the 512GB model and $1,349 for the 2TB model, according to Ars Technica on June 22, 2026. The early listing also described its higher-storage model as 1TB, a detail that conflicts with the later 2TB configuration.
What the retailer’s Steam Machine price leak said
On January 10, 2026, Tom’s Hardware reported that hidden listing data from Czech retailer Smarty indicated prices of about $950 for a 512GB Steam Machine and about $1,070 for a model described as having 1TB of storage. Those converted figures were before tax. The prices were not shown as ordinary public listing prices, and the report warned that Smarty’s figures could include retailer markup.
That makes the listing evidence of what one retailer’s preliminary data suggested—not a confirmed Valve price sheet. It did, however, put the purported higher-storage model above $1,000 before tax.
How the early listing compares with later reported U.S. prices
Later coverage reported U.S. prices after Valve’s announcement. The January retailer figures and June U.S. prices are not equivalent quotes: they differ in source and tax treatment, and the early report used a different capacity label for its upper model.

The capacity mismatch is important: the January report called the higher-storage listing 1TB, while June coverage gave the higher-priced U.S. configuration as 2TB. The available reporting does not establish that the two labels refer to the same SKU.
What the reported U.S. configurations include
Ars Technica reported SteamOS, a custom six-core AMD Zen 4 processor, AMD RDNA 3 graphics, 16GB of DDR5 system memory, and 8GB of dedicated graphics memory. These are reported specifications, not independent performance-test results.
