Dark Passenger’s announced concept is an online multiplayer action game set in feudal Japan. The initial description named co-op, player-versus-player (PvP) and player-versus-environment (PvE) play. These are development-era plans, not confirmation of features in a finished or released game.
The project was reported as being developed with Unreal Engine 5. That describes the engine cited at the time, not a guarantee about the technology or specifications of a final release. GameDeveloper’s announcement coverage also outlined the intended multiplayer format and setting.

What gameplay has been described?
Public descriptions have centered on shinobi and kunoichi characters, stealth, close combat and agile traversal. A reported locomotion concept included running along arrows fired by other players. Character and weapon customization were also part of the early description. GameDeveloper reported the movement and customization concepts, while Mein-MMO’s August 1, 2022 coverage described the ninja, stealth, movement and combat ideas.
These details indicate the direction the studio presented during development; they should not be read as a final feature list. The available reporting does not establish how those systems would work in a finished game.

What is known about funding?
In 2024, GameDeveloper reported that Dark Passenger raised $3 million for the debut multiplayer project in a round led by The Games Fund and Blite Fund.
