In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fortify Magicka temporarily increases your maximum Magicka. To brew a Fortify Magicka Potion, combine Jazbay Grapes with Red Mountain Flower; adding Garlic is described as producing a potion that also regenerates Magicka. The potion’s strength and duration depend on your Alchemy setup, so no single magnitude applies to every character.
What Fortify Magicka does
Fortify Magicka temporarily raises the size of your Magicka pool. It does not immediately refill Magicka you have already spent—that is the role of Restore Magicka—and it is not the same as Regenerate Magicka, which concerns recovery over time. Nukes & Dragons’ effect reference describes Fortify Magicka as a beneficial alchemy effect and gives example values tied to particular Alchemy and perk setups.

Add Garlic for another effect
The same guide describes adding Garlic to make a mixture with both Fortify Magicka and Regenerate Magicka. That adds a recovery-over-time effect alongside the temporary increase to your Magicka pool.

Why potion strength varies
Your Alchemy skill, relevant perks, and gear affect the potion’s result. For example, Nukes & Dragons displays a 22-point increase lasting 60 seconds for one specified setup, and higher values for other stated setups. These are conditional reference examples, not fixed values guaranteed for every character. Check the result shown for your own character rather than assuming a recipe always produces the same strength.
Ingredients and edition differences
Jazbay Grapes and Red Mountain Flower are a representative recipe, not a verified universal list for every Skyrim installation. Pocket Tactics’ potion guide also lists Tundra Cotton and Void Salts among ingredients associated with Fortify Magicka. Ingredient listings and available content can depend on edition or added content; the cited guides do not establish a complete version-by-version inventory. If a listed ingredient or result does not match your game, check the edition and installed content you are playing.
