The figures below are FIFA 20 database ratings, not assessments of the players today; each player’s listed growth is the difference between potential and starting overall rating.

The ranking below is from FIFA Index’s FIFA 20 player database. Its source page does not show a publication date, so treat these as FIFA 20 database values rather than a dated contemporary scouting report.

What makes these players hidden gems?
Here, “hidden gem” means a player who starts with a relatively low overall rating but has a high listed potential and a wide growth gap. The table pairs those measures so you can compare projects: Danny Leyva, for example, is listed at 57 OVR with 82 POT, while Harvey Elliott starts higher at 64 OVR and has 87 POT. The first offers more listed growth; the second starts closer to a regular first-team rating.
This is a different category from the game’s headline highest-potential stars. EA’s official FIFA 20 ratings page lists Kylian Mbappé at 95 potential, Matthijs de Ligt and João Félix at 93, and Leroy Sané, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Kai Havertz, Jadon Sancho and Vinícius Jr. at 92. Those names represent the high-potential star conversation; this list emphasizes lower starting ratings and room to develop. FIFA Index describes wonderkids separately as young Career Mode players aged 16–21 with high potential and growth.

How to choose a prospect for your squad
The ten players cover several roles, so use the list to address a position or development need rather than treating every name as an interchangeable signing. A low-rated prospect may offer a larger growth gap but need more time before they can contribute; a higher-rated player may be easier to fit into your XI sooner.
- Start with your squad need: the list includes a striker, central midfielders, centre-backs, a right winger and a goalkeeper.
- Compare current level and growth: OVR tells you the player’s starting rating in FIFA 20, while POT and the listed gap indicate the database’s ceiling and room for development.
- Check the particular save: the ranking does not establish transfer fees or affordability. Values and asking prices should be checked through scouting in your Career Mode save.
How to scout and develop hidden gems in Career Mode
Find players and check what they cost
EA’s FIFA 20 Career Mode guide says the Global Transfer Network supports up to six scouting instructions for positions and attributes, and a club can have up to six scouts. Use position and attribute instructions to narrow the search, or search for a player by name. Shortlist prospects from scouting reports, add them to the Transfer Hub, and use detailed scouting to reveal value and asking price before negotiating. Those figures are the sensible affordability check for your save, rather than assuming the ranking means a player is cheap.

Give young prospects a development path
EA says training sessions can develop players without using the transfer budget, allow up to five players, and improve attributes according to drill performance. Its guide recommends frequent training for young, high-potential players early in their careers. Training is not a guarantee that a player will reach their listed potential; development depends on how you use and manage the prospect in your save.
Keep squad role and morale in view
Playing time relative to a player’s squad role, wages, contract length, manager conversations and press-conference responses can all affect morale, according to EA’s guide. A prospect’s potential is therefore only one part of the decision: consider whether you can give them an appropriate role and manage their contract and place in the squad.
