Football Manager 2023’s Supporter Profile is a Club Vision feature that sketches the kinds of fans a club has and the expectations that shape their reactions. It groups supporters into six types and informs Supporter Confidence and fan behaviour. The official feature explainer is credited to “FM Admin,” not Miles Jacobson, so its specifics should not be presented as Jacobson’s personal explanation.
What Supporter Profile does in FM23
Supporter Profile appears within Club Vision and provides a snapshot of a club’s fanbase. Its purpose is to make supporter expectations fit the club’s identity and circumstances rather than treating every fanbase as alike. Sports Interactive’s official feature article, published on 30 September 2022, says the profile helps drive supporter actions and behaviours and keeps Supporter Confidence realistic. For example, a lower-league club battling relegation may have fewer Fair Weather supporters and a more forgiving fanbase than a top-tier side expected to challenge for titles. The profile is a description of the fanbase, not a player-selectable setting; the official material does not publish numeric proportions for the categories.
What the six supporter types mean
| Type | Official description |
|---|---|
| Hardcore | The most loyal and passionate supporters. |
| Core | The average football fan. |
| Family | Temperate and patient supporters. |
| Fair Weather | Fans especially impatient for success. |
| Corporate | Supporters chiefly interested in stadium facilities and club marketability. |
| Casual | Less passionate and loyal than the average fan. |
These labels cover different expectations and interests, not a ranking of supporters from good to bad. The descriptions emphasize loyalty and passion, patience for results, commercial appeal, and stadium facilities.

How Supporter Confidence differs from Board Confidence
Club Vision shows Supporter Confidence alongside Board Confidence, but they reflect different priorities. The official feature description associates supporters more with club identity, key rivals, and individual performances; the board is more focused on financial or strategic objectives. A board may therefore judge progress differently from fans.
Players can follow supporter feedback on match performance, transfer activity, tactics, and the squad through the Performance dropdown. FM23 also adds pre-match news about board and fan expectations, while general supporter mood can inform press-conference questions and Inbox social-media content. SEGA’s October 2022 release announcement describes Supporter Confidence as a breakdown of each club’s fanbase and its short-, medium-, and long-term expectations. - The best-selling, incredibly realistic football management drives on with over 1,000 improvements and enhancements in Football Manager 2014. The 3D match engine has seen extensive improvements, including enhanced AI, improved lighting and player animation, individual player character and kit models, more realistic player reaction to on-field incidents and a range of optimisations which combine to make this the best looking and fastest FM Match Engine yet. On the pitch, redesigned tactics management makes the player roles and team strategies even more prominent. Improvements to rival managers’ AI allow them to adapt their tactics more readily over time.
- FM 2014 features a revamped transfer module where opposing clubs and managers adopt a more realistic approach when making or responding to transfer offers. In addition, a number of new ‘real world’ transfer clauses have been added, such as the facility to loan a player back to the club he’s just been bought from and the option to offer a combination of cash and loan players, as well as new contract clauses such as a sub bench appearance fee. On top of this, the old ‘turn-based’ system of transfer negotiations can now be done two ways, the tried and tested system and a new ‘live’ system, similar to that used in FM’s contract negotiations.
- The 3D match engine has seen extensive improvements, including enhanced AI, improved lighting and player animation, individual player character and kit models, more realistic player reaction to on-field incidents and a range of optimisations which combine to make this the best looking and fastest FM Match Engine yet. Major changes have also been made to FM 2014’s user interface. Key areas have been redesigned – including the training overview page, the transfer centre and the news homepage – while widespread changes have been made across the game’s user interface. The language employed throughout the game has also enjoyed a major overhaul and now corresponds more closely to the language of real world football.
Did Miles Jacobson explain the feature?
The available official feature page is credited to “FM Admin”; it does not attribute the explanation of Supporter Profile to Miles Jacobson. Jacobson did later discuss FM23’s features in an official blog dated 28 June 2023, but that is broader retrospective context, not authorship of the feature explainer. In that post, he said, “The FM23 feature set wasn’t what we’d wanted to deliver.” Read Jacobson’s 2023 retrospective.
That retrospective also reported that FM23 had reached five million players by June 2023. The figure concerns the game overall, not Supporter Profile. The official feature article and SEGA announcement provide no named statistic specifically about the feature.
