Sarah Bond said she left Microsoft because it was the right time for her next personal and professional step. Her reported statement praised incoming Xbox leader Asha Sharma and offered transition support, but did not give a more specific reason for her departure or say what Bond plans to do next.
Why did Sarah Bond leave Xbox?
Bond’s stated explanation was that it was the right time for her next step, personally and professionally. In a note to her team that she shared on LinkedIn, as reported by Pure Xbox, she wrote: “With that, I’ve decided this is the right time for me to take my next step, both personally and professionally.”
She also said the transition created “a unique opportunity for fresh eyes and new leadership” to guide the team into its next chapter. The statement does not identify a dispute, dismissal, or other specific cause. The surprise timing of the announcement is not, by itself, evidence of an undisclosed conflict.
What did Bond say about her exit?
Bond spoke positively about the organization and its incoming leader. She said she was proud of what had been built during her “over the past eight-plus years,” and described progress in PC and cloud gaming, work on the next console, and efforts toward a more open platform spanning devices. Those are Bond’s characterizations of Xbox’s work, not independently verified performance figures.
