GameSpot’s March 8, 2024 coverage described a short cinematic teaser and an island change featuring a large arm holding Pandora’s Box. Greek mythology had already been rumored as the season’s theme; the key art accompanying the reveal confirmed that broad direction. Other possible gameplay items and collaborations mentioned in pre-launch reporting were uncertain or attributed to unverified sources, so they should not be treated as confirmed season features. Epic announced Chapter 5 Season 2 as Myths & Mortals on March 8, 2024. Its official description set the premise: “Pandora’s Box has been opened on the Fortnite Battle Royale Island, bringing Olympus to the battlefield.” The announcement detailed the following features. Weapons and powers
Epic listed the Gatekeeper Shotgun, Harbinger SMG, Huntress DMR and Warforged Assault Rifle among the season’s new weapons, alongside returning Chapter 5 Season 1 weapons. The Thunderbolt of Zeus was a Mythic power with three maximum charges and a cooldown. Wings of Icarus granted flight, but carried limits and a risk of crashing. Epic said Chains of Hades would arrive later in the season.

Weapon modifications and bunkers
The update included Thermal Scope and Speedgrip weapon mods. Mod Benches were located in Weapons Bunkers, which unlocked partway through matches.
What was in the Myths & Mortals Battle Pass?
Epic named Cerberus, Aphrodite, Poseidon, Medusa, Zeus, Artemis and Hades as Battle Pass characters. Korra was to become unlockable later in the season. Epic set the historical pass price at 950 V-Bucks and said players could earn back up to 1,500 V-Bucks by progressing it. Those were the terms for this pass, not an offer currently available: progression ended May 24, 2024, at 2 AM ET.

Was the Greek mythology leak true?
The broad theme was: Greek mythology speculation preceded the launch, and Epic’s announcement confirmed Myths & Mortals and its Olympus-and-Pandora’s-Box premise. That confirmation does not validate every separate pre-launch rumor. For specific gameplay details, rely on what Epic actually listed—such as the named locations, weapons, powers and mods—rather than treating uncertain teaser-era claims as established features.
