A leak forecast that Fortnitemares 2024 would start on October 15. But Epic Games’ official Fortnite announcement, dated October 12, said the event “runs now,” establishing that it was live by then—not that October 15 was its actual start date.
What date did the Fortnitemares 2024 leak suggest?
Contemporaneous reports attributed an October 15 start date to leaker HYPEX. ONE Esports reported the forecast on September 27 and noted that Epic had not officially confirmed it. Charlie INTEL’s September 6 report traced the date to an August 20 HYPEX post and likewise described it as leak-based: ONE Esports’ report and Charlie INTEL’s report.
That makes October 15 a leaked forecast, not a verified launch date. The distinction matters because Epic’s later official post says the event was already running before October 15.
What did Epic officially confirm?
In a Fortnite newsroom post dated October 12, 2024, Epic wrote: “Fortnitemares 2024 runs now until the end of Chapter 5 Season 4!” The statement confirms the event was live by October 12. Epic associated the event with the v31.40 Battle Royale update and highlighted the explosive Boom Billy, a rideable chainsaw, the return of Horde Rush, quests and rewards, and Shop outfits. The announced end point was the end of Chapter 5 Season 4.
Did Epic announce a start date before October?
Epic’s September 23 creator callout invited submissions for a limited-time Fortnitemares Discover row, with a deadline of October 7 at noon ET. It shows that creator programming was underway in advance, but it did not announce a public event start date. The callout said: “The most compelling islands will be showcased in a limited-time Fortnitemares Discover row.” See Flak’s post on the Epic Developer Community forum.
