The clearest new-game headlines included Borderlands 4, Mafia: The Old Country and Reanimal; returning games such as Civilization VII, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 received major trailers or news. Gamescom’s daily magazine counted 62 games across the pre-show and main show combined—not the main broadcast alone.
What was announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024?
Hosted by Geoff Keighley with co-presenter Eefje Depoortere, known as Sjokz, ONL was presented by The Game Awards as “A two hour live showcase of what’s next in video games.” The program ranged across genres and publishers: it was not a single-publisher presentation, and not every game shown was a world premiere. The 62-game figure reported by the gamescom daily magazine covers both the pre-show and main show.
The selections below highlight the announcements and updates with the clearest news, dates or platform details. They are not a complete transcript or an exhaustive catalog of every game in the 62-title count.
New game announcements and reveals
Borderlands 4
The show revealed Borderlands 4, the next entry in the looter-shooter series, with a 2025 release window announced at the time. VGC reported that the reveal-trailer description promised a new planet and a legendary Vault Hunter. That is the trailer’s description of the premise, not an independent assessment of the game.

Mafia: The Old Country
Take-Two announced a new Mafia game with a brief teaser. The contemporary GameSpot recap said more information was expected in December; the teaser itself did not establish a release date or detailed platform list.
Revenge of the Savage Planet
Raccoon Logic announced a sequel to Journey to the Savage Planet. VGC reported that its teaser described single-player, online co-op, crossplay and split-screen play.

Directive 8020
Supermassive Games announced Directive 8020, a Dark Pictures horror game starring Lashana Lynch. At the time of the announcement, the stated platforms were Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5 and PC, with a 2025 release window.
Dying Light: The Beast
Techland announced a standalone Dying Light game featuring Kyle Crane. VGC attributed the promise of “20+ hours of content” to the announcement; it should be understood as the announced content claim, not a measured playtime.

King of Meat
Amazon Games and Glowmade revealed King of Meat, an online co-op game described by VGC as supporting one to four players.
Reanimal
Tarsier Studios, known for the first two Little Nightmares games, revealed the horror adventure Reanimal. Its official description, as quoted by VGC, follows a brother and sister trying to rescue missing friends and escape their island home.

Other new titles
- Masters of Albion: Peter Molyneux appeared to reveal a new god game. GameSpot’s recap gave no release date.
- Monument Valley 3: ustwo games unveiled the next entry and announced a December 10, 2024 Netflix release date.
- Squid Game: Unleashed: Netflix announced the game and showed a brief gameplay glimpse, according to GameSpot.

Gameplay and featured games without a release date in these reports
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: The showcase included campaign gameplay. VGC described an espionage sequence in which a camera was used to collect evidence before the action shifted to more conventional combat.
- Monster Hunter Wilds: The official livestream listed it among the featured games, and VGC reported that new gameplay premiered during ONL.

The contemporaneous event reports establish what was announced then; they do not establish whether a game or edition is currently available, or whether a planned date later changed. Check a publisher’s current listing for present-day availability.
