There is no single best charm loadout in Ghost of Yōtei: the right picks depend on whether you want forgiving defense, parry-based recovery, stealth, bow damage, or quickfire attacks. This ranking favors charms that are useful often, have a meaningful effect when they activate, and fit more than one approach; specialized charms rank lower for flexibility, not because they are weak in their intended build. It is an editorial recommendation, not a developer tier list or a controlled comparison.
Sony’s official build guide shows charms working alongside armor and outfits in Warrior, Ghost, Dragonfly, Dueller, and Firefly builds. It says players start with three saved builds and can eventually save up to five, so consider keeping separate loadouts rather than forcing every charm into one setup.

What are the best charms in Ghost of Yōtei?
These 12 picks are ranked for a mix of everyday usefulness, effect strength, build flexibility, and reported acquisition effort. The available guides describe effects and examples, but do not establish a definitive or measured ranking of the twelve strongest charms.
- Charm of Futsunushi — Makes parries, perfect parries, and perfect dodges easier. Its broad defensive value and help with timing make it the most adaptable pick here, especially for players still learning enemy patterns. Push Square reports it at Faithful Leap Shrine in Tokachi Range. Source and location.
- Father’s Charm — Restores health after perfect parries, rewarding a skill that also helps control incoming attacks. It suits players who can land perfect parries consistently; Sony includes it in its Warrior and Dueller examples. Push Square reports it at Mount Yotei Shrine in Yotei Grasslands. Build context; reported location.
- Charm of Thoughtful Restoration — Increases maximum health, a straightforward buffer that does not depend on a specific weapon or combat trigger. Sony features it in Warrior and Dueller builds. Push Square reports it at Horizon View Hot Spring in Yotei Grasslands. Build context; reported location.
- Charm of Mount Yotei — Reduces all damage taken by a minor amount. The effect is simple and broadly relevant, making it a practical defensive choice even when your build does not revolve around parrying. Push Square reports it at Reliquary of Courage in Yotei Grasslands. Source and location.
- Charm of Assassin’s Resolve — Assassinations grant additional Spirit, making this a strong fit for stealth routes and builds that spend Spirit on abilities. Sony includes it in its Ghost build. Push Square reports it at Flowing Water Fox Den in Yotei Grasslands. Build context; reported location.
- Mother’s Charm — Increases arrow damage. It is a natural choice when you use the bow regularly, particularly alongside bow-focused gear; Sony lists it in its Dragonfly build. Push Square reports it at Mount Yotei Shrine. Build context; reported location.
- Charm of Sukunahikona — Restores health at a moderate rate while you are out of combat. It helps with recovery between encounters, rather than keeping you alive during an active fight. Push Square reports it at Chilled Peak Shrine in Teshio Ridge. Source and location.
- Charm of Burning Blades — Makes kunai inflict fire damage and ignite flammable objects. It rewards a quickfire approach and can add utility to kunai use, but is less valuable if you rarely throw them. Sony describes it among its charm and build options. Source.
- Charm of Homusubi — Increases fire damage, pairing naturally with quickfire equipment and other fire attacks. It is a focused offensive pick rather than a general-purpose defense charm. Sony includes fire-focused options in its build guidance. Source.
- Charm of True Aim — The Yumi locks onto enemies and fires two arrows. That can make it potent for a bow-centered setup, but its value is tied to using the Yumi, so it is a poor fit for a melee-first loadout. Sony’s build guide describes the effect. Source.
- Charm of Kibitsuhiko — Headshots while using Concentration extend its duration. Accurate ranged players can get more from a single Concentration window, but the effect depends on landing headshots and using Concentration. Sony’s build guide describes the effect. Source.
- Takezo’s Charm of the Unrelenting Warrior — Adds bonus damage while at low health. It has a high-risk, conditional payoff, so it makes more sense for players comfortable fighting near defeat than for anyone seeking a forgiving setup. Push Square reports that it comes from defeating the Disciple of Takezo at the Duelling Tree west of Lake Shikotsu. Source and reported acquisition.
Which charms are best for a parry build?
Start with Futsunushi if you want more forgiving timing, then consider Father’s Charm for health recovery from successful perfect parries. Thoughtful Restoration and Mount Yotei are broader defensive options if you prefer a buffer that does not rely on execution. Sony’s Warrior and Dueller builds show Father’s Charm and Thoughtful Restoration used alongside armor and outfits, rather than as stand-alone solutions. Sony’s build guide.

#1 Best Overall
- Stunning graphics and gameplay, explore the wild and striking lands around Mount Yotei on foot or horseback. Travel picturesque parts of northern Japan through grasslands, snowy ridges, fields of wildflowers, and more.
- Discover renegade combat, engage in lawless katana combat and battles with adversaires. Train with various sensei as you find and learn to use each new weapon.
- An unconventional story and journey, take in the cultural beauty of Japan, bathe in an onsen, visit shrines to pray, try Sumi-e painting, and so much more.
- Choose your weapon, battle Atsu's opponents as you see fit, with levelled-up dual katanas, odachi, kusarigama and other new weapons.
What charms should you use for stealth?
Assassin’s Resolve is the clearest match: assassinations generate additional Spirit, which supports a stealth route that also uses Spirit abilities. If an encounter turns into open combat, its assassination trigger may contribute less than a defensive charm, so save it in a dedicated Ghost loadout rather than treating it as universally optimal. Sony’s Ghost build includes the charm. Sony’s build guide.
Which charm is best for a bow build?
Mother’s Charm is the flexible starting point because it increases arrow damage. For a more specialized setup, True Aim is tied to the Yumi and its two-arrow lock-on effect, while Kibitsuhiko rewards landing headshots during Concentration. Choose based on the bow and actions you actually use; Sony’s Dragonfly example features Mother’s Charm, while its guide also describes the other ranged effects. Sony’s build guide.

Where do you get these charms?
The locations below are reported by Push Square; the guide is useful for finding named rewards, but check the shrine or activity requirements in-game because the location listing alone does not establish when each one becomes accessible.

| Father’s Charm | Mount Yotei Shrine, Yotei Grasslands |
| Thoughtful Restoration | Horizon View Hot Spring, Yotei Grasslands |

Treat those totals and reward details as that guide’s tally, not as an official count from Sony. Fan-run map guide.

Switch charms when your immediate plan changes: use defensive and parry-supporting choices for direct fights, Assassin’s Resolve for stealth, bow effects for ranged encounters, and fire charms when your quickfire tools are central to the build. A weapon-triggered or situation-dependent effect can be excellent in the right setup and nearly idle in another. Sony says the game lets players begin with three saved builds and eventually save up to five, so use those slots to keep distinct approaches ready. Sony’s build guide.

Useful alternatives for weapon-specific builds
- Takezo’s Charm of Bold Deflection: increases stagger damage on parries, making it worth considering when parries are central to your combat plan.
- Charm of Shattering Strike: adds a shrapnel explosion when the Kusarigama destroys shields.
- Charm of Thunderous Assault: may knock down enemies staggered with the odachi.
- Charm of Cannon Steps: can instantly stagger with the Yari’s Typhoon kick.
Sony’s build guide lists these as weapon- or move-linked effects. They can outrank broader picks in the matching setup, but their triggers make them less flexible across builds. Source.
