The Greater Jeweller’s Orb sets an eligible Skill Gem to four Support Gem Sockets. It can be used only when the skill currently has fewer than four sockets, and it can also affect skills granted by an item.
What does a Greater Jeweller’s Orb do?
It sets the targeted skill to four Support Gem Sockets; it does not add a fixed number of sockets to the skill’s existing total. The Path of Exile 2 Wiki’s item page describes the effect as setting a Skill Gem to four Support Gem Sockets and says the orb can only be applied when the skill has fewer than four.

How to use the orb
- Choose an eligible Skill Gem, or an item that grants one or more skills.
- Apply the Greater Jeweller’s Orb to that target.
- Check the resulting Support Gem Socket count. The effect sets the skill to four sockets rather than adding sockets to its previous count.
If an item grants multiple skills, the item page says the orb changes the socket count for all of those skills. The page also records that version 0.5.0 allowed Lesser, Greater, and Perfect Jeweller’s Orbs to be used on items with skills; this is a community-wiki version-history note, not a quotation from official patch notes.
Drop information and what is not established
The item page reports a drop level of 45 and says the orb can drop anywhere. These are item-page details, not a measured drop rate: no numeric chance, current league-specific rate, or current market price is established here. A Reddit thread asks how rare the orbs are, but it is a player question and does not substantiate a rate: the discussion.
