In GamesBeat’s March 2025 interview, Fortnite competitor and creator Cody “Clix” Conrod offers one answer to “getting in touch” with younger players: understand what they value in the game, meet them where they watch and play, and recognize the responsibility that comes with a public audience. His views are a creator’s perspective, not a finding about every young gamer.
What does Clix say younger Fortnite players value?
Conrod describes competitive Fortnite as performance-led. “People now really just care about the performance of the game and how to accomplish the highest achievements there,” he told GamesBeat. In that account, smooth, responsive play and the chance to achieve at a high level matter more than visual fidelity.
That is a useful distinction for understanding the competitive scene: a player weighing graphics against frame rate may make a different choice from someone focused on visual presentation. Conrod is describing his experience and audience, however; the interview does not establish that all younger players share those priorities, or provide a population-wide study of a “Fortnite generation.”
How do competition and creator work fit together?
Conrod presents professional play and streaming as connected parts of his career, but also as sustained work that has to be done in parallel. GamesBeat reported that he was 20 at the time of the interview and had begun earning money and attracting followers as a young teenager. The article also reported that he was named 2024’s Most Watched English Fortnite Streamer and received the 2024 Stream Awards Fortnite Streamer of the Year honor; those are the interview-era account, not current audience figures.

The wider reach of his creator identity is visible in projects beyond competition. GamesBeat described Clix Creative maps and modes as reaching tens of millions of players, and connected his public profile with XSET, the Dr3amin apparel brand, and a JBL partnership. Epic Games separately confirmed his Fortnite Icon Series debut in its official announcement. That establishes the in-game collaboration, not the present availability of a particular cosmetic.
What responsibility comes with a large audience?
Conrod also discusses the downside of influence: an angry public comment from a creator can send followers toward another person and make an already bad situation worse. Reflecting on that lesson, he said, “There are better ways I could take my anger than just ruining someone’s week.” His point is that visibility changes the consequences of an outburst; words from a creator may mobilize an audience, not merely express frustration.

Why does Clix want more in-person Fortnite events?
For Conrod, online play is not a substitute for the energy and fan connection of a live tournament. He argues that esports needs more in-person events and imagines Fortnite working with outside brands to stage LAN competitions: “The way I would want it to go is Fortnite being able to partner with third-party brands to have their own LAN events.”
He illustrates the appeal with personal event anecdotes. Conrod said he sold 500 jerseys in 10 minutes at a LAN event, and recalled a rain-soaked New York JBL event with more than 200 attendees and 15,000 online viewers. Those numbers are his reported figures in the interview, not independently verified attendance or sales statistics. He also described the JBL relationship as a matter of mutual enthusiasm: “Most brands that you work with, there needs to be love from both sides.”

The interview is most useful as a first-person view of how one prominent Fortnite competitor thinks about play, audience, brand work, and live events. It does not settle what all younger players prefer, measure the esports business as a whole, or verify current sponsorship terms and product availability. Its central insight is narrower: in Conrod’s experience, competitive performance, creator-audience relationships, and face-to-face fan experiences all matter to reaching his corner of Fortnite.
