What is Stygian Onslaught?
Stygian Onslaught is the permanent gameplay mode HoYoverse announced for Version 5.7. The June 6, 2025 announcement described it as a challenge that would bring a new challenge with each update. It did not provide a detailed rotation calendar or establish the mode’s current schedule.
The announcement appeared on PlayStation.Blog and was attributed to Zhenzhong Yi, HoYoverse’s Studio Technical Director. It named Version 5.7 “A Space and Time for You” and gave June 18, 2025, as the update’s arrival date.
How the announced challenge works
HoYoverse described three phases and five difficulty levels. Players who cleared Level 5 could unlock Level 6, which the announcement specified was solo-only.

The announcement listed Primogems, Artifacts, and valuable items for targeted Artifact enhancement among the participation rewards. It did not give exact quantities or a complete reward table, so those should not be inferred from the announcement.

What “permanent” means here
HoYoverse called Stygian Onslaught a permanent gameplay mode in its Version 5.7 announcement. That establishes how the mode was presented at launch, not its live rules, availability, or rotation in 2026. The same post said each update would bring a new challenge, but it did not specify a recurring schedule.
