Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar says the latest delay gives the team more time to finish the game to the level of polish players expect. The studio has not publicly identified a more specific cause in its announcement.
When does GTA 6 come out?
Rockstar’s current listing gives November 19, 2026 as Grand Theft Auto VI’s release date. The announced platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This is the currently announced date; release schedules can change.

Why was GTA 6 delayed?
Rockstar’s stated reason is that the team needs additional time to complete the game with the level of polish players expect. In its announcement, the studio said: “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”

That is the public explanation. The announcement does not identify a specific feature, technical problem, staffing issue, or other internal production cause, so more detailed explanations should not be treated as confirmed.
Take-Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company supported Rockstar taking additional time to realize its creative vision. His statement endorses the decision but does not provide a separate production reason.
