Its appeal is clearest in the action, character variety, and repeatable quest loop; the main caveats are that story and repetition drew mixed responses in reviews, and a favorable Steam user-review snapshot is not a guarantee of universal acclaim. This assessment covers the 2024 base game and distinguishes it from the newer Endless Ragnarok expansion.
What kind of game is Granblue Fantasy: Relink?
Cygames and PlayStation describe Granblue Fantasy: Relink as a fully 3D action RPG set in the Granblue Fantasy world. Its story follows a journey toward the legendary island Estalucia, beginning after the protagonist encounters Lyria in a world of floating islands. Cygames’ official overview and PlayStation’s game page outline that premise.
The game is organized around battles and quests: players fight enemies, earn gear, and build a party around character and enemy strengths. That structure makes it an action-RPG loop as much as a story campaign. The official product information also lists Assist modes, including Full Assist, which automates battle actions for players who want a less demanding combat experience. Cygames’ product page describes these features.
What do reviews say?
The available signals point to favorable player reception alongside a more mixed range of critic observations—not a unanimous verdict. Steam’s English-language listing showed 92% positive from 12,465 English reviews in a snapshot crawled about three weeks before October 8, 2026. That is a time-sensitive storefront user-review indicator, not a critic score or a permanent rating. Check the current Steam listing for an updated figure.

Metacritic’s listing showed 73 critic reviews in a snapshot crawled about one month before October 8, 2026, but the returned listing did not provide a numeric aggregate score. The count is not a score, and it should not be used to infer one. Individual PC reviews cited strengths such as presentation, animation, ambient dialogue, and multiplayer, while other reviews raised concerns about the story, simplicity, repetition, or performance modes. Those are individual judgments, not a single shared consensus. See the Metacritic listing and reviews.
What works—and what may not
Combat and character variety
The strongest case for the game is its action-RPG focus: battles, party strengths, and quest rewards sit at the center of the experience. If you enjoy learning different characters and returning to fights for gear, that structure is likely to matter more to you than a purely linear story campaign. The official feature descriptions establish the quest and party framework, but this article is not based on independent playtesting, so it cannot verify how each character feels in practice.
Story and presentation
The floating-island setting and Estalucia journey provide a clear adventure premise. Critics have praised presentation and animation in some reviews, but other reviews have criticized the story. Treat the narrative as a possible draw rather than a guaranteed highlight, especially if story depth is your main reason for playing.
Quests, rewards, and repetition
Relink’s quest-and-gear cycle offers a reason to keep fighting after the central story beats, and it supports group play as well as solo play. That same repeated structure may feel less appealing if you want every mission to introduce a substantially different kind of play; criticism of repetition and simplicity appears in some individual reviews. The available evidence does not establish how strongly those issues affect every player.

Can you play solo, and how does co-op work?
Yes. Cygames describes Relink as playable in single-player and says its online play supports groups of up to four. Cygames support also confirms that the game can be played offline. These are distinct options: you can play alone without relying on online matchmaking, or join online quests with others. Official game overview · Cygames user support
Assist modes are relevant if you want help with combat execution. Full Assist automatically performs battle actions, according to Cygames’ product information. It offers an accessibility option; it does not change the fact that the game is built around action-RPG battles.

Platforms, crossplay, and PC requirements
Cygames lists PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Steam versions for the original game. Its official information says PS4 and PS5 players can play together, while Steam is outside that crossplay pool. Do not assume PC-to-console crossplay. Cygames’ platform and online-play overview
On PC, Cygames warns that performance varies by device and that the game may not run properly on a graphics card with less than 6 GB of VRAM. Check the official system requirements and support information against your hardware; the warning is not a performance guarantee for systems that meet the threshold.
Buying the original game or Endless Ragnarok
Endless Ragnarok is an expansion covered in 2026 reporting, not simply another name for the original 2024 game. A PC Gamer review published July 7, 2026 described added quest difficulty tiers, playable characters, summons, and Conflux mode, while judging that the expansion extends the existing action-RPG loop rather than reinventing it. That is one publication’s review perspective, not a universal assessment. Read PC Gamer’s expansion review.
Cygames’ original product page says some original editions are no longer available and directs visitors to the Endless Ragnarok site for current products. The official information available here does not settle every current expansion platform or edition detail, so check the relevant store page before buying and confirm whether a listing is the base game, expansion, or a bundle. Cygames lists a physical PlayStation edition and regional Amazon retailer links for the PS5 game, but stock and edition contents can vary. Check Cygames’ product information.
Quick Recap
Who should play Granblue Fantasy: Relink?
- A good fit: players looking for colorful action combat, a party-based adventure, optional online quests, or a solo campaign with Assist options.
- Think twice: players who need the story to be the main attraction, strongly dislike repeating quests, or expect PC and PlayStation players to share crossplay.
- Check before purchase: PC players should compare their hardware with Cygames’ requirements; returning players should confirm whether they want the 2024 base game or the newer Endless Ragnarok expansion.
