Gray Zone Warfare’s Update 0.4, officially named Spearhead, launched on March 31, 2026. It was a major overhaul—not a separate game release—and included a full progress wipe alongside redesigned tasks and progression, changes to AI and combat feedback, new locations and equipment, and updates to movement, health, audio, onboarding, and the tactical map.
What was Update 0.4?
Spearhead was Gray Zone Warfare’s third major update. MADFINGER Games described its intended scale in a March 18 developer post: “With the Spearhead update, Gray Zone Warfare is set to feel like a completely new game.” That was the studio’s description of the update’s ambition, not a claim that it launched a different game.
The publisher’s launch notes listed more than 250 total tasks, including 100+ new Tasks and Contracts and 50+ updated tasks; 25+ new locations; eight new weapons; 380+ weapon parts; and 150+ gear pieces. These are MADFINGER Games’ feature counts, not independent measurements.
Did Update 0.4 wipe progress?
Yes. Spearhead included a full progress wipe. MADFINGER Games said the reset was intended to give players a fresh start with the redesigned systems, tasks, and economy.

How did tasks and progression change?
The update rebuilt the task and vendor-leveling loop around replayable progression, puzzles, and interactions in the world. Tasks were divided into main tasks, side tasks, and contracts. Contracts replaced Squad Strike Missions and could be played solo or in a squad. Most tasks became replayable, with Starter Town tasks the stated exception.
Time-of-day restrictions were removed. Regions remained explorable, but access to tasks within them depended on progression. Rewards shifted toward money rather than handing out items, giving players more choice over their loadouts.
What changed about AI and combat?
MADFINGER Games said it aimed to make enemy behavior less punishing and easier to interpret. The launch notes described reduced one-shot kills, less precise reactions to sound, patrols around designated areas, group behavior, and bosses spawning with guards. These are the developer’s stated changes and goals, not independently verified performance findings.
Combat feedback also received attention: hit reactions, limping animations, and weapon feedback were intended to make it easier to read what happened during an encounter.

What new locations, loot, weapons, and gear arrived?
Spearhead added 25 or more locations and expanded environmental variety. The developer said loot distribution was designed to better fit a location, its containers, and the faction occupying it. The update also added junk items and new container types.
The publisher listed eight new weapons, more than 380 weapon parts, and more than 150 gear pieces. Other additions included binoculars, range finders, and magnifiers.

What changed in onboarding, movement, health, audio, and the interface?
A new onboarding area included an obstacle course, infirmary tent, and shooting range, alongside a tutorial players could skip. MADFINGER Games also described the in-game Field Manual as more than 110 pages.
- Movement: tactical and burst sprinting, plus revised vaulting and jumping.
- Health and medical items: updated systems and items, with clearer injury indicators.
- Audio: improved sound cues and headset sound profiles.
- Interface: improvements to weapon modification and the tactical map.
These features were part of a wider set of changes to how players learn the game, navigate encounters, and manage equipment.
Is Update 0.4 still the latest milestone?
No. An April 2026 post discussed patches already delivered after Spearhead and further fixes planned, while the publisher’s news page listed an Update 0.5 teaser on October 1, 2026. Update 0.4 remains the name for the March overhaul, but it is no longer the latest announced milestone. MADFINGER Games also said more than 60,000 people took part in the Supporter Preview and that their feedback informed adjustments for the final release; that participation figure is the company’s own report.
