The Toxic Tangle is Grounded 2’s Garden-centered major update, released January 27, 2026. It added a greenhouse-like biome, new creatures and gear, and the rideable Ladybug Buggy, whose water cannon deals with airborne pests and Tang buildup. Obsidian also teased the Snake Colossus as a major threat, but its announcement does not provide a full encounter guide.
What is the Toxic Tangle update?
Obsidian launched The Toxic Tangle on January 27, 2026, as Grounded 2’s first major content update. It is more than a new area: the release added creatures, armor, weapons, trinkets, building sets, Tang-related effects and hazards, and changes to mutations. Obsidian’s announcement describes the update as a Garden expansion built around exploration and threats.
Where is the new Garden biome?
The Garden is a greenhouse-centered area of overgrown vines and tangled paths. Its routes include crawlspaces and vertical climbs, with harvestable locations such as a pumpkin patch and carrot jungle. The layout emphasizes navigating the environment as well as facing its creatures; the announcement does not give a specific map coordinate or route for reaching the area.
What does the Ladybug Buggy do?
The Ladybug Buggy is a rideable, tank-style mount with combat and utility functions. Its pressurized water cannon can blast airborne pests and rinse away Tang buildup. The Buggy can also ram enemies and gradually regenerate health, making it useful both for moving through the Garden and dealing with threats.

The update announcement explains the mount’s abilities, but does not provide a step-by-step unlock route for getting it. Treat it as a feature introduced with Toxic Tangle rather than assuming a particular quest, crafting recipe, or location is required.
What new creatures and threats are in Toxic Tangle?
Obsidian’s named creatures include Earwigs, Potato Beetles, and Woolly Aphids. The announcement also teases the Snake Colossus as a large threat and says the Masked Stranger remains present after an earlier encounter. Those descriptions establish that these threats are part of the update’s story and creature roster, but do not specify exact spawn behavior, encounter tactics, or a complete boss guide.

What else changed besides the Garden?
Gear, building, and Tang
Toxic Tangle adds armor, weapons, trinkets, and building sets alongside Tang-related effects and hazards. The official announcement presents these as part of the update’s broader content; it does not supply a complete item-by-item stat comparison.
Mutations
Mutations are divided into active and passive types. Passive effects apply automatically based on the weapons in your loadout, according to Xbox Wire’s update coverage. This makes weapon selection relevant not only to direct combat, but also to which passive mutation effects are active.

Platforms and later fixes
At launch on January 27, 2026, Toxic Tangle was available through Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud, and through Early Access on Steam. Xbox Wire also identified Game Pass as an access route at launch. Availability and program terms can vary by date and region, so those launch details are not a guarantee of current access.
Obsidian’s September 11, 2026 version 0.5.1 patch notes say the patch fixed an issue filling the Ladybug Buggy reservoir with Pond Water and an issue with a Garden quest step. These are fixes recorded for that patch, not evidence that either issue remains a current bug. Read the version 0.5.1 notes.
