After finishing God of War Ragnarök, choose your next step by what you want from the game: more story, optional exploration, tougher fights, or a replay with your progress intact. Valhalla is the post-story epilogue; New Game Plus (NG+) is the option for carrying your gear into another campaign. Neither is a required next step, and the ten activities below are a practical menu—not an official checklist.
Pick a postgame route that fits your goal
| What you want | Good next step |
|---|---|
| More story after the ending | Play God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla, the epilogue. |
| More world and side content | Finish unfinished favors and explore areas you have not fully searched. |
| A demanding combat test | Take on optional endgame fights still available in your save. |
| A replay with your build | Start New Game Plus. |
PlayStation estimates up to 40 hours for the main story and a selection of side quests, or 55–60 hours to see everything. That broad estimate is for the game overall, not a count of postgame activities or a required completion target. PlayStation’s God of War FAQ and game page

1. Finish the side quests you care about
Return to unfinished favors if you want more character moments and world stories. Treat this as optional cleanup: there is no need to clear every favor before moving on to Valhalla or NG+.
2. Explore for discoveries and collectibles
Use the regions you have already unlocked to look for missed discoveries and collectibles. The official completion estimate indicates that seeing everything takes longer than the main story and selected side quests, but it does not itemize every collectible or prescribe a particular cleanup route.

3. Take on optional endgame combat challenges
Check your save for optional fights you left unfinished. These provide a combat-focused next step without requiring you to restart the campaign. Their availability and your remaining targets depend on what you completed during the playthrough.
4. Fight Gná if she is still undefeated
Gná is one of the high-end optional fights Santa Monica Studio specifically references in its NG+ discussion. If she remains on your list, you can make that fight your next challenge rather than treating it as a prerequisite for another mode. Santa Monica Studio’s NG+ announcement

5. Challenge the Berserkers and their King
If you have not completed the Berserker fights, they are another substantial combat goal. Santa Monica Studio’s NG+ guide discusses the Berserker Souls and Berserker King, but it is not a full unlock walkthrough; use an up-to-date guide for specific prerequisites or locations.
6. Play Valhalla for the epilogue
Valhalla follows the base game’s decisive battle against Odin and Atreus’ departure, taking Kratos and Mimir into a series of trials. Santa Monica Studio recommends finishing Ragnarök first if you want to avoid narrative or gameplay spoilers. Santa Monica Studio’s Valhalla announcement

How to access it
On PlayStation, Valhalla is a separate download from PlayStation Store and launches from the base game’s main menu once installed. PlayStation says it is included with the PC purchase. Confirm access and platform terms in your regional store, since availability can vary by platform and region. PlayStation’s God of War FAQ and game page
7. Set Valhalla’s difficulty to suit your run
Valhalla has five difficulty settings, and you can change the setting between attempts. That lets you adjust the challenge as you learn its run structure rather than committing to one setting for every attempt. The studio’s announcement does not establish one best difficulty for every player.

8. Treat Valhalla as a replayable combat mode
Valhalla uses roguelite-inspired trials rather than simply extending the main campaign. Each attempt is an opportunity to adapt your combat choices and build approach. This makes it a useful option if you want a repeatable challenge as well as the story epilogue.
9. Start New Game Plus for a campaign replay
NG+ became available in the April 5, 2023 update. It lets you replay the campaign while carrying over equipment, weapons—including the Draupnir Spear—and skills. To begin, complete the base game and select New Game Plus from the game’s menu; check your current save and the latest game update before starting. Santa Monica Studio’s NG+ announcement

10. Experiment with NG+ gear and progression
NG+ adds equipment, enchantments, an increased level cap, and adjusted challenges for optional fights. Use the replay to try a different build or engage with the mode’s added progression. The specifics of equipment conversion and available options are described in the studio’s guide, so consult it alongside your current game version before planning a detailed setup.
