Is the original God of War trilogy getting remade?
Yes. Santa Monica Studio confirmed that “the original God of War trilogy is being remade” in a post published alongside the February 12, 2026 State of Play. The remake announcement was delivered by TC Carson, the voice of Kratos in the Greek saga. Santa Monica Studio’s announcement describes the project as “still very early in development” and says fans should be patient while the team works on it.

When will the God of War trilogy remake come out?
No release date or release window was announced. The studio also did not provide detailed remake features or fuller platform information in its February announcement. The only development-status detail it offered was that the project is very early, so claims about a launch year, gameplay changes, or platforms should not be treated as confirmed.
What is God of War Sons of Sparta?
Sons of Sparta is a separate game from the trilogy remake: a 2D action platformer with a canon story set during Kratos’s youth. It follows Kratos and his brother Deimos while they train at the Agoge. Santa Monica Studio says its writing team worked on the story and that partner Mega Cat Studios helped develop the game.

TC Carson returns as the narrator, voicing adult Kratos. This is distinct from his role in announcing the trilogy remake: Sons of Sparta tells a story about the brothers when they were young.
Is Sons of Sparta on PS5?
At the February 12 announcement, Santa Monica Studio said Sons of Sparta was available digitally on PS5 through PlayStation Store, in Standard and Digital Deluxe editions. The announcement did not detail what the Digital Deluxe edition includes. Availability or editions may have changed since then, so consult the current PlayStation Store listing for present purchase details.
