What Halo: Campaign Evolved is—and when it released
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a ground-up remake of the campaign from Halo: Combat Evolved, rebuilt with updated visuals and systems. Xbox Wire describes the project as a return to the campaign that began the series; as Executive Producer Damon Conn put it, “We wanted to start where it all began, with the original campaign that defined Halo,” according to Xbox Wire.
The game launched globally on July 28, 2026, with early access beginning July 23, according to Halo Waypoint. Its release year is also the 25th anniversary year of Halo: Combat Evolved, a milestone called out in official Halo material. That anniversary connection does not mean the remake is free.
How to get the game
Official materials describe two purchase formats: physical editions through select retailers and digital downloads from supported storefronts. Xbox also lists Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass as subscription access routes. The sources do not establish a universal price, regional availability, or the exact terms for every membership, so verify the current store listing for your platform and region.

For a physical Xbox copy, search for a current listing such as “Halo Campaign Evolved Xbox Series X game” and confirm the seller, edition, platform, and stock before ordering. Official sources establish physical editions exist, but not current Amazon availability or price.
Platforms and multiplayer

Xbox and Halo Studios list up to four players for online co-op and two-player local split-screen on consoles. The remake also adds three new prequel missions and nine additional weapons, figures stated in official Xbox and Halo materials—not independent testing results.
Which edition should you choose?
The right option depends on whether you want permanent purchase access, subscription access, or physical extras. Official Halo materials describe a Digital Premium Edition with digital extras. Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 Collector’s Editions are described as including a physical disc and an upgrade voucher, along with collectibles including a SteelBook, Master Chief statue, replica Cortana data chip, art prints, and a physical manual. Contents and availability can vary by region and may change, so check the current official listing before choosing.

What “Xbox’s 25th anniversary” means here
2026 marks 25 years since Halo: Combat Evolved, and the remake revisits that original campaign. The anniversary is context for the release, not an indication of a giveaway or free download. Game Director Greg Hermann told Xbox Wire, “Given that Halo: Campaign Evolved is a remake, it is critical that we deliver gameplay that is 100% authentically Halo at its core,” in an interview about the game.
