Halo Infinite’s Halo 3-inspired Operation was Operation: Legacy, which launched June 10, 2025—not an upcoming update. It brought Halo 3-style settings and modes to the Delta Arena: Halo 3 Legacy Playlist, alongside the return of Grifball. Halo’s launch announcement said players could play through July 8, 2025; it does not confirm whether the playlist or its rewards are available now.
What Operation: Legacy brought to Halo Infinite
Operation: Legacy revived selected Halo 3 multiplayer elements rather than changing all of Halo Infinite into Halo 3. Its two headline offerings were the Delta Arena: Halo 3 Legacy Playlist and four Grifball variants. Halo’s launch announcement described Delta Arena as applying Halo 3 settings to selected maps, including Guardian, Narrows, Cold Storage, and Ghost Town—maps it said were available for the first time in Halo Infinite matchmaking.
The operation was part of Halo Infinite’s 2025 Summer Update. Halo’s Summer Update schedule placed Legacy on June 10, between Operation: Last Stand on May 6 and Operation: Reclaimer on July 8.
How the Delta Arena: Halo 3 Legacy Playlist worked
Halo’s playlist description listed these settings, which distinguish it from ordinary Halo Infinite play:
#1 Best Overall

- Jumping: Jump height was set to 120%.
- Starting weapons: Players started with either the MA5K Avenger or BR75 Battle Rifle.
- Secondary weapon: None was provided.
- Player collision: Friendly player collision was enabled.
- Maps: The playlist used a selection of maps; Halo specifically named Guardian, Narrows, Cold Storage, and Ghost Town.
The official announcement listed seven modes: Legacy Slayer, Legacy KOTH, Legacy Oddball, Legacy CTF, Legacy One Flag, Legacy Assault Neutral Bomb, and Legacy Assault One Bomb. These are the playlist details Halo published; they should not be read as evidence that every match or setting exactly duplicated Halo 3.
Grifball returned in four variants
Grifball was a separate offering from the Delta Arena playlist. Halo described 4v4 teams using Gravity Hammers and Energy Swords to fight for the ball and score in a goal. The four variants were:
Rank #2
- Classic Grifball
- Third-person Classic Grifball
- Octane Grifball
- Third-person Octane Grifball
According to the launch announcement, matches could run for up to five three-minute rounds, with one minute of overtime. The first team to reach three points won; if no team reached that mark, the leader after five rounds won.
Operation: Legacy’s pass and timing
The launch announcement offered a free 20-tier Operation Pass featuring the EOD GEN1 armor set, Spartan Points, and an emblem. It also described an optional Premium Operation Pass upgrade purchasable with Halo Credits, with a durable reward track, bonus XP, an extra challenge slot, and premium customizations. Those are launch-period details, not confirmation of current offers or reward access.

Halo’s launch page said players could play through July 8, 2025, and advised finishing the free pass by then. The available official information does not establish whether the Legacy playlist, individual rewards, or store items can still be accessed in October 2026. A later Halo Support page for Operation: Infinite documents a subsequent update and a 100-tier free reward track, confirming that Legacy was not Halo Infinite’s final update—but not the current status of Legacy content.

Operation: Legacy was one part of the Summer Update, not the source of every feature previewed for that update. Halo’s preview separately associated the Mutilator weapon, Firefight: Battle of the Academy, Mutilator Madness, and S&D Extraction with Operation: Last Stand. Those features should not be attributed to Legacy.
