1. Start the good deed in Vyssa Hills
At the Refugee Camp, talk to the elderly couple, Alban and Esther Vosh. They explain that they had to leave their dog behind in Jova; this conversation establishes the “Man’s Best Friend” good deed.

2. Return to Jova when the guard is gone
Go back to Jova after the soldier protecting the dog has departed. Max is tied up near a doghouse or kennel, but you cannot reach him while the soldier is still blocking access. Walkthroughs associate the change with later story progress, around Act 2, but do not agree on a specific quest that triggers it. If the soldier is still there, continue the main story and check Jova again later.
3. Free Max and collect the collar
Interact with Max once the way is clear. Freeing him gives you Max’s Dog Collar, which is the item you need to return to the couple.

4. Hand the collar to Alban Vosh
Return to the Refugee Camp in Vyssa Hills and give Max’s Dog Collar to Alban Vosh. Walkthroughs identify this hand-in as the deed’s completion step.
Should you wait before turning in the collar?
If you care about Max’s later reunion scene, you may want to continue Abbot Jaffer’s story before handing over the collar. Walkthrough accounts describe different story states: one places Max with Rebecca at Lake Cynon if he was freed before Jaffer leaves Vyssa Hills; another describes Jaffer, Rebecca, and Max at an Apiary near the Reservoir after Jaffer’s cave task and a National Library lead, and recommends delivering the collar after that sequence for a “good ending.” A separate guide calls the immediate alternative neutral. These accounts do not consistently establish the precise trigger or consequence, so treat waiting as optional guidance rather than a guaranteed requirement or deadline.

A Gamer Guides walkthrough reports that completing the deed rewards the Eager Embrace glyph at Watcher’s Nest. That guide describes it as enabling a teleport attack from 20 meters that stuns a target; this effect and range are walkthrough-reported, not confirmed by an official quest reference.
