In Hell Let Loose, your first job is to help your squad take and hold territory—not to chase a high kill count. It is a 50-versus-50 tactical shooter built around teamwork and strategic play, so learn the objective, choose a useful spawn, and communicate with your unit before worrying about advanced roles.
What should you do first?
Start with the basics: check your controls, join a team and infantry unit, choose a role, then pick a spawn. The developer’s beginner guide, published March 26, 2021, recommends that onboarding sequence and notes that settings can be adjusted in-game. Menu labels and details may have changed since then, so treat it as a general starting point rather than a guarantee of the current interface.

- Review settings: Check graphics and keybinds before your first deployment; adjust them later if needed.
- Join an infantry unit: Learn how your squad moves and communicates before taking on a leadership job.
- Choose a role you can use: Pick a role you understand and focus on contributing to the unit rather than maximizing kills.
- Select a spawn with a purpose: Consider whether you need to regroup, defend, or move toward the objective before deploying.
Where should you spawn?
The 2021 developer guide describes HQ, Outpost, and Garrison as spawn types and suggests an Outpost or Garrison when joining a match already in progress, since they may put you nearer the action than HQ. Spawn rules and availability can change; check the current in-game map and spawn options rather than assuming those older details still apply exactly.
Before selecting a location, look at where your squad is and where the active objective lies. A spawn that is close to combat is not automatically useful if it leaves you isolated from your unit or sends you away from the task the team is trying to complete.

- Fight in epic 50 vs 50 multiplayer battles.
- 9 maps with more added frequently - land at Omaha Beach, fight through Carentan and into the frozen forests of Foy before climbing Hill 400.
- Never fight the same battle twice - 99 capture point variations per map, means thousands of potential battles.
- Play and master one or many of 14 unique roles, including: Officer, Medic, Machinegunner, Commander, Crewman, Sniper and more.
- Constantly updated with new maps, weapons, features and fixes.
What is the objective—and how can you help?
The official game description presents Hell Let Loose as a teamwork-focused, strategic 50-versus-50 game. Its framing is clear: “This is not about kill to death ratios, it’s about working together to dominate and outstrategise the enemy.”
A developer briefing from 2018 explains that capturing a sector depends on having more soldiers in it than the opposing side. It also describes victory as capturing enemy HQ sectors or holding more territory when time expires. That briefing is historical, so use it to understand the broad importance of numbers and territory—not as a guarantee that every current match rule is unchanged.

Which role should a beginner pick?
The available official beginner guide does not establish a current ranking of the best beginner roles. Its practical advice is to understand the game before trying Officer: take that role once you feel confident leading a unit. For your first matches, choose a role whose responsibilities you understand, listen to your squad, and learn how the team works together before volunteering to lead.
