StarRupture is a first-person open-world game that combines factory building, resource processing, exploration, survival, and combat. It supports solo play as well as online co-op for up to four players, but it is still in Steam Early Access: its systems and content may change, and Steam currently lists 2027 as the planned Early Access exit.

This is a research-led preview of the game’s advertised features and development updates, not a firsthand review of the current build.

What is StarRupture?

Developed by Creepy Jar, StarRupture is built around a cycle of exploring a hostile planet, gathering resources, processing them through machines, and expanding an industrial base. The game’s official description pairs that production work with survival and combat against alien creatures. It also describes a planet repeatedly affected by cataclysms, making environmental upheaval part of the premise.

The pitch is therefore broader than a conventional factory builder: players are expected to manage production while venturing into the world and defending themselves. The official feature descriptions establish that mix, but don’t tell us how much time the current build actually devotes to factory design, combat, or exploration, or how difficult those systems feel in play.

Is StarRupture co-op, and how many players can play?

Yes. The Steam listing describes both single-player and online co-op for up to four players. Creepy Jar says the modes support exploring, gathering resources, building machines for mining, harvesting, creating, and assembly, alongside combat and survival.

That makes co-op an option rather than a requirement. The published feature information confirms the player limit and broad activity set, but does not establish how solo and group sessions differ in balance or pacing.

Is StarRupture still in Early Access?

Yes. StarRupture entered PC/Steam Early Access on January 6, 2026, according to Creepy Jar’s corporate announcement, and Steam still labels it an Early Access game. The store currently gives 2027 as the expected departure from Early Access. Treat that as a plan, not a guaranteed release date.

Creepy Jar describes Early Access as a period for gathering community feedback, refining the game, and adding content. The Steam description says the planned full release is intended to add more biomes, enemies, buildings, mechanics, and an end game. These are stated plans; they should not be read as a promise that every addition will arrive on a particular schedule.

What changed in the latest StarRupture update?

The latest major update covered in the official announcements is Update 2: Quality of Life, released September 2, 2026. Its changes focused on factory construction, information access, interface options, balance, and accessibility.

  • Factory building: building-copy functions, multi-deconstruction, and adjustments to pillars and platforms.
  • Production and storage: a production-rate display and storage search.
  • Navigation and tracking: additional tracker and map information.
  • Interface and comfort: options to toggle head bob, camera shake, and sprint field-of-view changes, alongside other interface changes.
  • Balance: adjustments were also included, though the announcement summary does not establish their effect on every play style.

Creepy Jar posted Hotfix 0.3.3 on September 14, 2026, describing further quality-of-life improvements and fixes for the update. The dated update history shows continued iteration after launch, but does not establish that all reported issues are resolved or that performance is consistent across PCs. The announcements are available in the official Steam announcement feed.

What this preview can—and cannot—tell you

The official materials establish the game’s core systems, supported modes, Early Access status, published PC requirements, and documented update history. They do not establish the quality of the current build through firsthand play. In particular, they don’t settle how readable a large production network becomes, how threatening creatures and cataclysms are to an established base, whether exploration consistently rewards expansion, or how well different group sizes are accommodated. Those are the practical questions to check in current player coverage or by trying the game yourself.
