Havoc Squad is an elite Republic Trooper unit—and the heart of Star Wars: The Old Republic’s Trooper class story. You play a Republic soldier caught in a separatist crisis on Ord Mantell, then face a betrayal within the squad that turns the campaign into a pursuit of former comrades. Aric Jorgan, a disciplined and blunt veteran, is one of the story’s defining early companions.
What is Havoc Squad?
Havoc Squad is a Republic Special Forces unit tasked with dangerous missions in the Republic–Sith Empire conflict. In SWTOR, it is more than the Trooper’s posting: the squad’s identity, loyalty, and fracture drive the class story.

The Trooper fantasy is that of a trained soldier serving in an elite small unit, equipped with protective armor and ranged firepower. The official Trooper overview describes the rifle as central to that identity: “A Trooper’s rifle is his best friend, and the military is constantly challenged to design faster, more powerful and more reliable blaster rifles every year.” That is class-fantasy framing, not a recommendation for a current weapon setup or build.

Ord Mantell and the immediate mission
The story begins on war-torn Ord Mantell, where the Republic is fighting separatists. Havoc Squad is drawn into the conflict amid the danger of a stolen ZR-57 orbital strike bomb. The threat soon proves larger than a single weapon or battlefield operation: the Republic’s own Special Forces have been compromised.

The betrayal within Havoc Squad
Commander Harron Tavus and other Havoc Squad members defect to the Sith Empire. The player character remains loyal to the Republic, takes command of the unit, and pursues the former squad members. That reversal makes the story a military pursuit as well as a loyalty test: the Trooper must rebuild Havoc Squad while confronting people who once served alongside them.

Who is Aric Jorgan?
Aric Jorgan is a veteran soldier and an early companion in the Trooper story. BioWare’s 2013 companion profile presents him as disciplined, blunt, and focused on mission success; he tends to value actions over words. He initially regards the Trooper as inexperienced and joins under difficult circumstances.
Charles Boyd, identified in that profile as the writer behind the Trooper storyline, describes Jorgan’s early motivation as revenge against the traitors who betrayed the Republic and apparently damaged his career. The profile also characterizes him as favoring the direct Havoc Squad approach: taking the fight to the Empire. This is background on Jorgan’s character, not a guarantee of how every player’s choices shape the relationship.

The same profile shows how Jorgan measures his fellow squad members. He clashes with Elara Dorne’s rule-bound approach while recognizing her competence, and appreciates M1-4X’s reliability. These details offer a view of the squad’s personalities, rather than a current companion-performance ranking.
How companions matter in the story and in play
Companions are both narrative characters and practical allies. SWTOR’s official companion overview describes damage, healing, and tank roles, and explains that player dialogue choices can affect how companions regard the character. The official tutorial also directs players to select companion tactics. Those systems support different approaches, but the cited material does not establish one universally best companion or combat configuration.

Where Jorgan appears later
Jorgan’s role is not limited to his introduction in the Trooper campaign. BioWare’s 2016 Disavowed page places Major Aric Jorgan later as Havoc Squad’s commander, recruiting the Outlander’s Alliance for a mission behind enemy lines. That is one later-story touchpoint, not a complete account of every companion’s fate or outcome.
