KRAFTON’s notice set the change for January 16, 2026 (KST) and said the game’s own anti-tampering features would remain. The official notices establish the patch and its requirements—not the dramatic piracy, sales, or performance result implied by “we all know what happened next.”
What changed in Hi-Fi RUSH?
KRAFTON announced that Denuvo support for the PC version would end at 00:00 KST on January 16, 2026. The change came through a game update, rather than a separate optional setting. KRAFTON’s December 4, 2025 notice and the Hi-Fi RUSH Steam announcement both said players needed to install the update to keep playing after the deadline.
The notices also distinguish Denuvo from the game’s own anti-tampering protection: that other protection remained active. So “Denuvo removed” does not mean “all copy protection removed.”
What happened to players who did not install the update?
According to KRAFTON, the pre-update PC version would stop running after 00:00 KST on January 16, 2026. Players who wanted to continue playing needed to install the patch. This was a consequential compatibility requirement, not just a change to the game’s background protection.

Does the removal prove a performance boost or a piracy event?
No specific downstream result is established by the official notices. KRAFTON said the adjustment was intended to provide “a more stable and efficient service environment.” That is the publisher’s stated rationale, not a published before-and-after benchmark. The available evidence does not verify a measured frame-rate or loading improvement, a sales effect, or a particular crack or piracy outcome. That does not prove none occurred; it means those claims cannot be confirmed from the sources cited here.
As a result, the title’s “we all know what happened next” is framing, not a substantiated account of a particular event. The firm answer is narrower: Denuvo was removed from the updated PC build, the game retained another anti-tampering layer, and an update was required to keep playing after the deadline.

How the change fits the publisher timeline
- November 14, 2025 (KST): KRAFTON said it would take over official service operation from Bethesda Softworks. Its service-operator notice said the transition would not change gameplay content or player save data.
- December 3, 2025: The Steam announcement described the publisher transition, Denuvo’s removal from the PC version, the remaining copy protection, and the need to update before the January deadline.
- December 4, 2025: KRAFTON’s help-center notice specified the January 16, 2026, 00:00 KST end time and warned that the game would not run after that point without the patch.
The publisher transition came before the Denuvo notice, but the cited announcements do not say that one caused the other.
What about physical editions?
Physical releases are a separate part of the game’s history, not evidence about what Denuvo’s removal did. On March 10, 2026, Tango Gameworks announced physical editions, describing a disc that includes DLC and updates; special editions add items such as an art book and soundtrack. These are console editions, distinct from the PC patch.

The relevant official record supports the update date, the required patch, and the continued presence of the game’s own anti-tampering features. The Steam store page lists the PC game and its system requirements, but those specifications do not measure a Denuvo-related performance change. No named statistic in the cited sources establishes a post-removal performance, sales, or piracy outcome.
